if a man won’t work, don’t give him anything to eat.

not all the poor are elpless widows.

God wants us to give to thegenuinely needy, noit the ungrateful nd lazy and those that covet and steal. in socialist america today we have an abudance of takers and ‘entitled’ ungrateful masses that believe they have a right to your stuff.

Saw it happen before in my own church many years ago as a child. Reason why I don’t attend anymore. Read the Bible, listen to few services on the radio, give what I can to charity, but as far going to any service in person, never again.

Your comment did not address my argument that Americans are still the most generous and giving people in the world. One hundred years ago the US was a largely agrarian place The cities were more industrial. That said, the US then had church going people who were generous and took care of their own. As public education took over and the government got bigger it led to people turning away from their natural faith based resources.

My original comment is accurate and factually based. The desire of government is to grow ever larger. To do that the government (and those in it) want churches and their influences to diminish. Today the US is not a church going society (on the whole). It none the less is a giving and generous place.

and i am saying not all the ‘poor’ in this country are genuinely poor. many are sponges content to live of the sweat of the labor of others. if they can work but choose not to, let them not eat.

what we call poor today in this country are what almost everyone else in the world aspires to attain.

All of this is a challenge to our faith. Why does God let this go on.

I guess we just have to have faith that God is in charge and knows what He’s doing and it will all be obvious some day.

yes, churches did take care of their own. but that of course meant you actually went to a church.

It may be more like a parable than a true story, but the message is still good.

Americans still take care of their own through various charitable organizations....even if they do not go to church there.

Read Bill Bennett’s column http://www.cnn.com/2011/12/15/opinion/bennett-generosity/index.html

yup i lump all private giving together for my point. but it also is known conservatives give more than liberals, and that christians give more than any others in the country too.

Bishop Newman sat in a pew at St Peter’s in Philsdelpia deep in pray. His clothes were raggedy.People sat around him.Someone announced on the altar the Bishop had not showed up.He stood up and went to the altar and everyone was in shock.I met one of his miracle's.But that's another story.he's a Saint now.

Bennett is talking about today. I’m talking about what was happening 100 years ago.

> This is a hoax according to snopes.com

Not sure if it actually happened.

Another hoax invented by the left / athiests to paint Christians in a bad light. No surprise there. To be expected.

Gave a barefoot homeless person a ride today. Tract marks on her arms and her face covered with sores. I told her that Christ loved her. Maybe it made a difference. Maybe not. She didn’t respond, but I will pray for her....

How, in this country with it's insanely generious welfare benefits is anyone in need for long?

We have housing programs, we have how many food programs? We have stamps, WIC, food banks, etc.

There is help for energy bills. Help for job training. Bus service is subsidized. Most poor people have cars and AC.

I am suspicious of ANYONE begging. Quite often it is a scam and quite profitable.

We luv ya' Sky.

My first reaction was to see what denomination and when there was none, I was suspicious.

"They" will always try to pin a Christian denomination with something like this, but no church nor denomination was mentioned.

<Too many have become suspicious and skeptical of anyone needing help.

Very true. But they didn’t need to ask the guy to sit in the back.
