Florida City Orders Residents to Remove 'God Bless America' Signs

Residents of a Florida city who have had "God Bless America" signs posted on their front lawns for months have been ordered by local officials to remove them.

MyFoxTampaBay.com reports that the First Baptist Church of Bartow distributed some 300 signs to residents following a Fourth of July celebration. The city only permits residents to display signs during major holidays is starting to crack down on the displays.

Vote in a new City Council and have the law changed...surprise - surprise people...it’s a city ordnance - get it over it...or change it through the electoral process...stories like these are a distraction from reality - there are solutions other than some newspaper penning out a emotion piece to garner division.

I saw this on the news this morning. I don’t get it. I can understand NO signs in some restricted communities but “God Bless America”? Don’t get it.

PS - got an email from a friend who said no more FAA or FCC computer testing; all US government certification tests are on hold. So if a pilot needs an upgrade test, forget it.

It’s a cardboard and wire sign. It’s not made to last for more than a couple of weeks.

Thank you this observation. The news media often plays some of us around here like a fiddle.

What one has to be aware of is the law of unintended consequences. "God Bless America" signs are laudable but if plastered around town constantly without maintaining the signs, these become unsightly and the message gets lost.

It also opens up the possibility for another group that might want to plaster "America Bless Allah" signs all over the place in retaliation.

If you want to do this sort of thing, there are such things as bumper stickers. You want a lot of signs in the community to broadcast your views? Buy more vehicles and do more driving.

These people should tape and listen to themselves.

We had the original 4th of July (in part) so we don’t have to listen to governments who tell us when we can or can’t say things they might disagree with.
