The Bible requires two witnesses to find someone guilty. We've got three on this condemnation of evangelization/proselytism.

So much for "Go and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit'!

Proselytism is different from evangelization. Proselytism is what Jehovah’s Witnesses do on your doorstep before you slam the door.

Evangelization, announcing the Gospel, is entirely different, and the Pope tells us we have to do that every day.

Are you saying that all Christians should hate Jews? Or just doing a little more Catholic bashing? What on earth is your point?

Evangelism (good) / proselytism (bad). These words have different meanings in Catholicism than elsewhere. Much like a cult is good in Catholic circles but bad elsewhere. Are you not aware of these facts that I present to you?

I am watching this Pope’s actions very carefully.

He is either very right or very wrong. I am currently leaning towards the very right side of perspective, but the jury is still out.

By his fruits, we shall know him.

Inadvertently, I hope, on your part, this was not founded on fact.

First, the remark about proselytism was from the "La Repubblica" interview, which, it turns out, has been discredited for significant fabrication. Insofar as direct quotations go, there was neither a recording made nor notes taken (a rather shocking breach of professional journalistic practices), and the interviewer (an 88-year-old atheist) admits it was "reconstructed from memory" http://tinyurl.com/PF-interview-inaccuracies

Second, even if Pope Francis had made a remark against proselytism (we don't know if he did or he didn't), that's not the same as being against evangelization.

Many countries (I'm not talking about Muslim, but EU and others as well) restrict or ban "proselytism," defined in their law codes as offering bribes for conversion (e.g. housing, employment, medical aid), the recruitment of children without their parents' knowledge or consent, or other unethical practices.

Understood in this way (legally), proselytism is a recognized fraudulent, abusive or manipulative behavior: it is the opposite of legitimate evangelism.

Source link. Please do not repeat this falsehood about Pope Francis..

Here is what proselytize means: "pros·e·ly·tize verb \ˈprä-s(ə-)lə-ˌtīz\ : to try to persuade people to join a religion, cause, or group" Miriam Webster" I see the effort to redefine the English language to condemn those who do preach the word is continuing apace.

Why is it that many Protestants struggle with the basic understanding of words? Proselytism is different from evangelism.

Read ‘Common Witness and Proselytism,’ produced in 1970: http://berkleycenter.georgetown.edu/resources/publications/common-witness-and-proselytism-a-study-document

It was produced by the World Council of Churches and some Catholic representatives. It is based on the premise that that proselytism involves unworthy motives, methods and messages.

Pope Francis said: “Evangelization is not proselytism.”

And he said: “First: Paul has this attitude, because it was the attitude of Jesus. Second, Paul is aware that he must evangelize, not proselytize.”

““Paul teaches us this journey of evangelization, because Jesus did, because he is well aware that evangelization is not proselytizing: it is because he is sure of Jesus Christ and does not need to justify himself [or] to seek reasons to justify himself.”

http://www.patheos.com/blogs/kathyschiffer/2013/10/proselytize-no-evangelize-yes-said-pope-francis/

So, it has to be asked: Why are so many Protestant anti-Catholics so wretchedly stupid as to not know the basic definition of words?

Well, this is probably the first time I have agreed with GPH.

For all the Francis apologists, just before Francis said that proselytism is NONSENSE, the interviewer made a comment that all of his friends said that the pope will try to convert him. Convert was the operable word that Francis was replying to, so to Francis “proselytize” = “convert”. Francis sees converting others as nonsense. No need to be Catholic folks! Right from a CATHOLIC (?) pope’s mouth!

And why is ANYONE arguing that this is in fact what he (and all of the post-Vatican II “popes”) believes??? These papal claimants are too busy attending non-Catholic services which is condemned prior to Vatican II.

Vatican II= New Church.

Why any Orthodox rabbi (not that this Rabbi Skorka is Orthodox; I don't know if he is or not) would want to engage in ecumenism with any other religion is beyond me. The Jewish community of Rome is the worst offender.

There's absolutely nothing new about Catholicism not being a proselytary religion. None of the ancient churches engage in proselytism. Their whole mindset is that the world converted seventeen hundred years ago, so now chrstians just reproduce sexually. I suppose it has something to do with being an ethnic religion, which the ancient churches are.

In addition to that, Catholicism today considers proselytism to be a Protestant concept. Like creationism, the Catholic Church sort of defines itself against proselytism. And they scream as loud as any anti-missionary Jew when they find a tract under their windshield wiper. (The whole "we don't steal other churches' sheep" is just another form of this anti-proselytary mindset.)

""Go and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit'! "

Can't be said better than that. The Word is like the seed that is scattered.

"Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds. 4 As he scattered them across his field, some seeds fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate them. 5 Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow. 6 But the plants soon wilted under the hot sun, and since they didn’t have deep roots, they died. 7 Other seeds fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants. 8 Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted! 9 Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.”

Anyone who has ears to hear can choose their ground.
