This matter is supposed to apply to all Christianity, as well as Judaism. Malachi 2:16 is even clearer than the two verses that precede it.

It seems to me that if the Catholic Church is going to pronounce (which it seems to) all of the worlds religions that are a valid pathway to heaven, doesn’t square with the idea that divorced and remarried people are living in a state of Mortal Sin.

I would say you can’t have it both ways... One could argue that a marriage that didn’t last was not a covenant with God in the first place. If God had been involved in the first marriage it would not have broken up in the first place.

This is from a man who has been married to the same woman for 45 years.

According to Dt 24:1-4, Moses lays down that a man may present his wife with a certificate of dismissal and send her away from his house, if she no longer finds favour with him. Thereafter, both husband and wife may embark upon a new marriage.

And what recourse does a woman have, tables turned?
