Once, many years ago, I wrote a letter to the editors of the New York Times discussing the comparison between abortion and slavery. The idea was not original with me, but I doubt whether the abortion pushers had ever considered it. I think the occasion was that it seemed odd that a prominent black politician had just come out in favor of abortion.
Basically, I made the point that what abortion and slavery have in common is that they both take a certain group of human beings and pretend, against the evidence, that they are less than human. All human lives are precious, but for some reason some humans are regarded by some people as not fully human, so it’s OK to enslave or kill them if it’s convenient. I don’t remember if I pointed out that that was also one of Hitler’s arguments, used to justify medical experimentation and the Holocaust.
I pointed out that biological science, and not just religious belief, demonstrates that a baby in the womb is both alive and human.
A few days later I got a phone call from an angry woman who said she worked in the editorial department of the Times, and was checking to be sure that I wrote the letter and that it was signed with my real name. I said yes. And the letter was published. Why, I don’t know. I guess they still had a grain of honesty about their profession back then, and published at least a few opposing viewpoints once in a while.
Anyway, I hoped what I said might make at least a few of their liberal readers think twice about what abortion really amounts to. It treats certain human beings as less than human.
Selfish, self-serving.
1 Peter 4
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other peoples matters. 16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter.[e]
Thinking Secular i could find plenty to say, but the people who are involved in covering up their irresponsibility in this sort of thing will be in torment their whole life if they have a conscience and i do believe most people has one.
