Still today there is controversy as to the real meaning of Chanukah. So lets keep it simple by declaring that Chanukah is about a group of Hebrew fighters who were mad as hell and were not going to take it anymore. These were the Maccabees, hammers for justice and freedom in Judea/Israel some 2,000 years ago.
The Maccabees took to heart the Torah dictate that the Hebrews were to be a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation.
So, outnumbered and out-gunned, they used guerilla tactics to rise up against their Hellenistic oppressors who had defiled the land, the people and the Temple.
They won, they lost, but what counted was this they fought.
A while later something similar came about, only this time it was the Bar Kochba Revolt against the Romans.
Here too there were victories and defeats, but again they fought.
So let us put to rest the notion that Jews are pushovers. Led by the Almighty Himself, Moses and Joshua were summoned to fight and to conquer. According to the Jewish Virtual Library, Jews do not glorify war. This is true. But it is also true that at the Song of the Sea from the book of Exodus the Hebrews paid tribute to God as their Man of War.
King David was surely a man of war, and so was Deborah...

It doesn’t get much cooler than the Maccabbees. Yonatan Netanyahu comes close, though.
I see a lot of you in this post.
Happy Chanukah! :)
The birth of Christ on December 25 ? Sukkot as the date is supported by Elizabeth's Zacharias served as a high priest and John would have been born on Pesach. Factor in when Miriam visited her cousin Elizabeth, John (1:14) tells us that Yah'shua was made flesh The word "dwelt" in the Koine Greek is: Eight days after the beginning of Sukkot is Eight days after a Jewish male is born he is circumcised. After the Eighth day comes the the most Joyous day: Nine months back from Sukkot is Chanukah
A clear reading of the Holy Word of G-d would lead to another date.
A date commanded by YHvH with clear Biblical meaning and understanding.
Chanukah is a great time for followers of the Jewish Messiah to celebrate.
The eight day Feast of Chanukah echoes of the eight days of the Feast of Tabernacles
Chanukah was most likely when the "light of the world"
(John 8:12) entered human form and tabernacled among us.
Feast of Tabernacles is the birth day of Yah'shua.
This question is answered when you believe and trust
the Holy Word of Elohim in Luke 1.

The time sequence is outlined by the

based on his tribe, we know when he served

Most Jews believed that Elijah
would come at Pesach to announce
the coming of the Messiah (Malachi 4:5).
Elizabeth was six months pregnant (Luke 1:26)
Thus the timing of Yah'shua's birth can be ascertained.

Happy Hannukah to all the Jewish FRpers!
I’ve trained with some Jews who most certainly would fight back. Israel is where Krav Maga comes from.
I used to go to MMA fights and they were always talking about Krav Maga and Brazilian Ju Jitsu.
>> “So let us put to rest the notion that Jews are pushovers” <<
I bet that the Syrians and Egyptians don’t think Jews are pushovers.
“It doesnt get much cooler than the Maccabbees. Yonatan Netanyahu comes close, though”
That was Bibi’s brother that lead and was killed on the Entebbe operation, yes?
Yes. I have a book, “Entebbe,” written by their other brother, Iddo Netanyahu.
I’m sure one can get it from Amazon. There is simply no comtemporaneous coolness element to provide a comparison.
But that is a very cool construction! -)
I like this post! Happy Thanksgiving to you and all yours T-C!
Well Thank You Megan!
May Everyone have a Very Happy Hanukkah and Thanksgiving!
shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
Thank. Sometimes I like to just throw words around ;-).
Happy Thanksgiving, T_S. (Not happy for cats ... the dog is visiting again.)
