Organization Seeks to Preserve Religious Heritage Sites

A recent report by the “Future of Religious Heritage” states that an estimated 600-700 churches in the Netherlands will be decommissioned by 2018.

The “Future of Religious Heritage” organization is comprised of associations, government bodies, universities and religious communities that are working together to preserve religious sites across the European continent.

According to L’Osservatore Romano, which published the statistics, the organization also estimated that 400-500 Protestant churches will also be decommissioned.

Currently, the Bishops of the Netherlands are in the Vatican on their Ad Limina visit, which is required by the heads of dioceses every 5 years. The Holy Father addressed several issues pertinent to the area, which is consider highly secularized.

Sad but true. When the church and culture go over to liberalism, expect this result.

Probably members are being euthanized (elderly) or aborted (younger). They will regret this in 5-10 years.

This is very sad. I have a beautiful coffee table book about old stained glass windows in European churches (paid $1 for it). What will happen to them?

I live in California and old-line churches are going out of business right and left — my church (Presbyterian) combined with another when our membership fell. Elderly people were sobbing in the pews during the final sermon. At least the city council didn’t allow a developer to snatch up the property, it is now home to a fundamentalist denomination.

Another old church a few blocks from here (I think it was Methodist) is now home to a large Asians Christian church.

Maybe they’ll also convert them to Churches of Slack head by Bob Dobbs! They’ll have devivals instead of revivals.

That song originated in the US. It was originally written in Swedish—”Han Skall Öppna Pärleporten” (He the Pearly Gates Shall Open)—by a Swedish immigrant.

The Methodist church that I currently attend just celebrated its 125th anniversary. Its membership was soaring toward 3,000 in the mid-1960's, when a liberal pastor took over and began using the pulpit as a soap box for trendy liberal political causes. While he was pastor, hundreds of parishioners moved up the street to the Evangelical Free Church. Most of them didn't come back.

The current pastor, an immigrant from South Korea, maintains a Bible-centered focus and is backed by the district superintendent, who fled Vietnam in 1975.

I doubt it. That looks like a hard-core Dutch Reformed Church congregation. Unfortunately, it is probably one of the few that remain in Holland.
