President Obama is pivoting once again to decrying the alleged sin of income inequality -- the left's perennial and favorite class-warfare theme. At the same time, the religious left is becoming more vocal in American politics, couching its opposition to income inequality in theological rhetoric.
When Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin took shots at Pope Francis for his apparent critique of capitalism, leftist religious scholar Reza Aslan pounced.
Writing in The Washington Post's "On Faith" section, Mr. Aslan contends that Jesus preached "revolutionary social teachings" whereby "the rich will be made poor, the strong will become weak, and the powerful will be displaced by the powerless."
He writes of Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin:
[I]f these "culture warriors" who so often claim to speak for Jesus actually understood what Jesus stood for, they would not be so eager to claim his ideas for their own. In fact, they'd probably call him a Marxist.
To his credit, Mr. Aslan acknowledges that most modern Christians don't interpret these ostensibly radical pronouncements literally, but treat them as "abstract ethical principles."(continued)

Some individuals on the Left fail to understand their own belief system and do not see this, but that doesn't mean it isn't so. Everything the Left does is in direct opposition to God.
Unless and until every leftists who calls for “income equality” gives away all his/her money except for what is needed for a minimum subsistence level, the cries ring hollow.
The left incessantly rails against income inequality but is silent about work inequality. They always cite Jesus’ exhortations to care for the poor, but ignore his direction that the “idler shall not wear the clothes of the laborer”. Cherry picking is hardly adequate to describe their actions.
Exactly. Or supports a law requiring everyone be paid exactly the same salary, regardless of job. I’m sure the rich, liberal John Edwards-style trial lawyers would love a law that requires they be paid the same salary as their paralegals.....NOT!

TENETS of the
RELIGIOUS LEFT
Inclusivism rules, so...
If you disagree with us, you’re intolerant and hateful...
God is Whatever or Whoever
There are many paths to ‘God’
There is no such thing as Divine revelation, truth is what science or reason says it is at the moment or what works for you...
The Bible is outdated, of limited value, and in most areas simply wrong
unless interpreted to support what we believe...
Science is infallible, not the Bible...
The Creation account is myth; evolution is fact...
No human life is sacred; in or out of the womb...
Mankind is basically good and self-redemption is possible
I’m OK, you’re O.K
, unless you’re a member of the religious right or a social conservative...
Accountability is harmful to our self-esteem...
All morals and cultural norms are ‘social constructs,’ none is superior to another...
Lust, love, and sentimentality are all one and the same
Private behavior has no public consequence...
Our set of social good works are the highest virtue...
Our involvement in politics is perfectly ok; but the religious right violates ‘separation of church and state’.
You can’t impose your values on us, but we can legislate and shove ours down your throat...
Public schools are great; they advance OUR enlightened liberal agenda under the guise of religious ‘neutrality’...
We are never guilty of hypocrisy...

Slaven leads off the article by citing Aslan as a member of the “religious left”. Aslan is a Muslim. Who is he to be arbitrating disputes amongst Christians? Slaven is apparently oblivious of Aslan’s faith. Slaven’s subsequent discussion of theology on the topic of income distribution missed the fact that income inequality has increased under Obama’s rule and that the Democrat Party has become the party of economic privilege. Obama’s income inequality meme is hypocrisy.
The Progressive Movement returning to its roots, best exemplified by cow-state messiah and Bible-thumper William Jennings Bryan.
Ironic that Aslan is the name of the hero of C. S. Lewis' Christian-themed "Narnia" books.
Thou shalt not covet.
Not really ironic. ‘Aslan’ is Arabic for lion.
Reza Aslan is a Muslim.
Here is what Christians believe about this subject:
Commandment #10 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbors wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's.
The seven deadly sins are pride, covetousness (also known as avarice or greed), lust, anger, gluttony, envy, and sloth.
Amen to that!
Given the fact that left wing “religious” zealots are proposing that the GOVERNMENT be the tool of redistribution of property for religious reasons, the proper question to ask is if they’re proposing a theocratic government, where the government forces people to follow the religious dictates they’re pushing.
As far as I’m concerned, The Lord gave us free will to allow us to make our own decisions to do good and evil. The government forcing us to “do good” takes the moral requirement out of it, robbing the person who wants to do good of the personal “good feeling” while empowering self-important a$$-hats to control others, WHILE giving people who don’t give a damn cover to let others take care of the problem!
The simple counter to those A$$HATS trying to make these assertions is to accuse them of trying to create a theocracy!
Mark
5 years of his attempt to fix incoming equality only made things worst
Worldliness and materialism isn’t godliness. Weren’t the Jews waiting for a worldly messiah to overthrow the Romans? Isn’t this kind of the same thing, but with each liberal a god unto themselves?
He’s an Iranian, ex-Evangelical, Muslim convert, professor of religion with four degrees, trained in the New Testament Christianity so he’s qualified.
Aslan’s goal, as a Leftist and Muslim is interested in reducing Jesus.
He was an Evagelical convert from Islam who returned to Islam after being “educated” by Jesuits.
