A part-time employee of a Seattle-area Catholic school has announced that she is planning a same-sex wedding in August – and the school’s president and CEO says that she is “welcome” to stay, according to a local media report.
In December, Mark Zmuda, the vice principal at Eastside Catholic School, was dismissed after his summer same-sex wedding became a matter of public knowledge. A local newspaper reported that the dismissal followed a conversation between Archbishop J. Peter Sartain and the school’s president and CEO, Sister Mary Tracy. The vice principal’s dismissal led 400 of the school’s students to protest.
On January 7, Stephanie Merrow, a part-time drama coach at the school, announced that she will wed another woman in the summer and said that she feared for her job.
““I’m doing this to support the kids, and what the kids are trying to do is get to the Pope and change the Church,” said Merrow, according to a KING-TV report.

Permitting an openly homosexual educator in a Catholic school is akin to Adam and Eve allowing their children to be brought up by a serpent. I don’t care what the Pope’s position is on homosexuals, the fact is these people are living in sin, and until they renounce their anti-Christian ways and seek forgiveness from God, they have no business educating children who are attempting to learn in the same vein as Catholics before them.
This is a disgusting spectacle.
Wonder how long the administration will last there. I’m not Catholic, however, I’d think that their tenets probably don’t say “Support our faith, except for the parts you happen to personally disagree with.”.

Because after all, high school kids are smarter and better and know what’s best and true to a religion that existed for 2 millenia prior to their ever being born./sarc
Exactly. Kids who haven’t lived their lives yet and become adults who gained gifts of maturity and discernment are the LAST folks one should be listening to on changes in any church or school. When I was a kid, I would have loved it if the teachers were required to give us all As, no homework and unlimited ice cream but that is not reality.
The nun is welcome to resign or the Archbishop must do his duty which could include closing the school if it fosters heresy. If Catholic educational institutions do not adhere and promote Catholic teaching, they have no basis to exist.
Exactly. If the folks in these schools want pagan secularism, then why don’t they go to public schools were they get all the pagan secularism they want and for free?
I heard this discussed a bit on the radio last night on my way home. Me thinks she wants her “15 minutes of fame”, after she saw/heard what the ex-Vice Principal rec’d. She mentioned on the radio that she was coming to school wearing “the big rock” her partner gave her.
From what I’ve heard, there is some discussion wrt whether she is actually an employee of the school or a contractor. She’s doing choreography for an upcoming school play, Guys and Dolls. Apparently, this is the 2nd play she’s done with the school. An update on the radio last night - she said she had to go through background checks, sign an agreement (don’t recall if she said NDA or employment agreement), etc. and felt she was a school employee.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Not sure if she signed an employment agreement with the school itself or not. And, if she did, if it included the same language as the conract the VP and others signed that included a clause that they had to comply with Catholic Church doctrine.
IMHO the easiest way to solve this IF she is a contractor or hired on a one-off basis for plays is let her finish the current play, then don’t hire her again after she gets married in August.
The “kids” are not paying the tuition…If catholic schools become no different then the public schools, they will cease to exist.
Quite narcissistic of this teacher to think that her little ceremony could change 2000+ years of church teachings…but then again I think most lesbians and sodomites are narcissists.
Weird how you never hear any stories about gay employees at mosques or madrassas getting married to same sex partners.
My guess is gays are infiltrating these organizations with the intent of causing mayhem.
Nothing like presenting a consistent message to your student body.
