AMEN, amen!

Pope Francis is simply living up to his namesake.

Have you ever heard of the saying, “love the sinner, hate the sin” ?

Have you ever heard of the saying, “love the sinner, hate the sin” ?

Yes. But regarding such sayings, beware of the "traditions of men" which Jesus warned about in Mark 7:8 which don't complement what the Scriptures teach us. And not only does Isaiah 5:20 warn us not to call evil good, but note that the way that Jesus addressed how Christians were to treat unrepentant sinners in Matthew 18:15-17, and the way that he addressed the Pharisees in Matthew 23, don't reflect the idea of loving the sinner and hating the sin.

And how does "love the sinner, hate the sin " compliment Paul's words of 1 Corinthians 5:13, "With such a man do not even eat (NIV)," or from 1 Corinthians 15:33, "Bad company corrupts good character (NIV)." It doesn't compliment those passages either.

Yes, Jusus taught us to love our enemies. But with respect to the passages referenced above, love them from a distance.

Somehow I don’t see pre-Vatican II popes giving any credence to the Koran and the Muslim faith.

Probably because they were busy teaching the truth: that it’s false and evil.

Pope Francis mentioned nothing about the afterlife in his comments, or the fate of a person's soul.

Well, he certainly should have; because the afterlife is a lot longer, and final, than the mortal life. And I still pray for the soul of Mother Theresa, mlizzy.

Pope Francis’ namesake converted Muslims: he did not encourage them to follow their false faith like the current pope does.

Ah, so even though you can't find anything wrong with the Pope's statement about different religious faiths helping people cope with pain in their lives, he's a traitor because didn't talk about the issue YOU wanted him to talk about in front of an audience.

I wonder how other freepers would react if OTHER Christian ministers were treated this way.

Let's see... I'm pretty sure Billy Graham didn't focus a lot on the afterlife in his final television sermon, either. Perhaps he's an cozy with atheists and imploding "idiot" who "needs to read the Bible" and Graham "certainly doesn't understand it".

Gee, that doesn't sound very nice when hate is spewed at Billy Graham for preaching Christian love, DOES IT?

You’re doing a poor job of reading my mind; it doesn’t matter what I think. Better focus on God’s mind and whether you want to go the Heaven.

Same place the pope wants to move on to... Jerusalem...

When Pope meets with Obama, Israel will be the conversation privately.

And how to slice and dice God’s promised land of Israel..
