VINELAND, NJ (CBS) — Police in Vineland are searching for the suspects who vandalized statues outside two churches overnight.

According to the Vineland Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Sacred Heart Church at 922 E Landis Avenue for reported criminal mischief. An investigation revealed that sometime during the night, the suspects had vandalized several religious statues on church property.

The vandals hacked off the head of a statue of the Virgin Mary. In addition, the vandals also chopped a statue of Joseph in half.

A few hours later, officers were dispatched to St. Francis of Assisi Church at 23 W Chestnut Avenue for the same incident. A subsequent investigation revealed statues at this church had been damaged in the same manner as the ones at Sacred Heart.

The vandals must have been listening to Cuomo. “Drive out those hateful, homophobic Catholics, and if you can’t drive ‘em out, vandalize their churches!” THEY ARE NOT WELCOME HERE!!!

My alibi is solid.

BTW, this is child's play compared to what the Roman catholic Church did to my Huguenots family.

Do you actually think your Huguenots were killed by the RC church? I think it is more likely the French government.

It’s like saying the English Catholics [like Thomas More and Bishop John Fisher] were killed by Protestants during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, when it was by the English royal government in the name of religion.

Keeping these stories alive by harping back to admitted atrocities from many centuries ago, is not helpful.

By-the-way, the reference to the new Kristalnacht in not too far-fetched here. It Christian denominations do not stand together, we will all perish together.

Those same prime suspects would have the nerve to invite us to their protestant church too.

Here’s the background - and not from a Catholic site. Sounds mostly political to me.

These situations tend to involve males in their teens/early 20s, alcohol and/or drugs, and stratospheric levels of stupidity. I wonder if there were references to “Satin.”

Is someone planning on busting up a "protestant church" in protest?
