A Homosexuality DICTIONARY for Born-again Christians
The Christian Post iPost ^ | January 26, 2013 | James R. Aist

Anti-gay: a misleading charge used by gay activists to attach a negative label to anything a born-again Christian says that opposes the “gay agenda.” We are anti-sin (of all kinds) and pro-people (of all kinds). It is a blessing to be called “anti-gay” by a gay activist.

Bigot: a born-again Christian who steadfastly refuses to deny anything that the Bible says about homosexuality. It is a blessing to be called a “bigot” by a gay activist.

in his works of art, but Satan “fishes,” too, using some good as bait. He can’t get Christians to bite otherwise. But what he sows are only the seeds of confusion, lack of holineness, discontent, idolatry, disrespect for God, hatred, bitterness, spiritual blindness, etc. In the end, any “good” in worldly entertainment only serves the point that we’re good so we don’t need God, and we can decide good for ourselves. What fellowship does God’s Holy Spirit have with the films of Johnny Depp and the music of Michael Jackson? Jackson performed by grabbing his private area, and said that the music naturally made him do it.

Accepting Satan’s counterfeit spiritual food also makes us pass up what God would give us in its place. There are certainly reasons to watch or listen to worldly entertainment, at times. One is to know what the enemy is up to. I’ve watched Family Guy three times to see what Satan is doing through it, as well as to find out the show’s advertisers in order to write to them. We can also partake of it in a limited way to see what an unbeliever or confused believer gets from it and to “share” the good of it with them, if we see it for what it is and introduce them to God’s truly satisfying spiritual food, while being ready to teach the unbeliever or confused believer what’s wrong with the spiritual food of the world. We will want them to see that God’s way aren’t really a sacrifice after all, but bring joy, satisfaction, and peace.

Discernment as given by the Holy Spirit does not buy into deviance, but separates it and runs away from it. So then, one may receive and enjoy the skills and talents of artists with thanksgiving while rejecting the deviance. In this way, despite their unbelief and service to their master, they ultimately serve me and my Master.

Under no circumstances should one accept deviant teaching/practice out of the fear of man. God’s Word is clear. In this area I fail daily. Confession of sin is in my breath until my baptism is complete. But I will also rejoice in this creation and partake of the gifts of the Creator with thanksgiving while I am here.

These are words upon which we may disagree, but I would prefer that we both take comfort in the atoning merits of Christ Jesus, and agree as much as possible in all things, speaking the same together.

This is an excerpt from “Let Me Entertain You,” by Merlin Carothers:

For too long I had been like the young man who said to his girlfriend, “You are the most beautiful and lovable creature that God ever made. I love you with everything that is within me. Being with you gives me more joy than anything in this world. I promise you that I am going to be with you two evenings every week.”

“Oh?” said the young lady, “and where will you be the other nights?”

“Don’t worry about that. I’ll just be with another woman to have fun. Her one flaw is that she really hates *you*, but other than that, we have so many things in common that I enjoy being with her. You have no reason to be disturbed about it. I don’t love her.”

I’m going to list some of the many reasons, according to God’s Word, why Christians should separate from worldly entertainment made by unbelievers:

It rejects God and His Son (hates them, in fact); its point of view is the carnal self; it plants seeds of all types that are contrary to God, so that even Christians partaking of it think like the world (are disgruntled, angry, wanting to be entertained, unforgiving, me-first, putting trust in worldly circumstances, lukewarm, etc.); it promotes the causes of Satan, and does so very effectively, helping to make “lawlessness abound” and sow a greal deal of utter moral confusion; its “moral lessons” oppose God’s truth, *especially* when it expresses values close to Christian ones because it gives the credit for the goodness to man or a “higher power” other than the true God; it points lost people to places other than the Cross of Christ, and so is an “author of confusion” and darkness rather than light; it presents a false view of the world which appeals Cont’d

the sin nature which points people away from Christ and so is darkness rather than light; it distracts people from their condition of being under God’s wrath to come if they’re without Christ, giving them a false sense of security; its methods and ways are evil (such as the “casting couch”) and cause a hardening towards God; partaking of it sends many wrong messages to unbelievers, and especially shows that Christians, in their hearts, are casting their votes for spending time with the Devil rather than God; it denies the words “Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven”; Cont’d

Partaking of it also feeds it, and it abandons those responsible to it to their state of being under God’s wrath without Christ rather than having the Christian have as their first concern towards these unbelievers be their salvation (coming to repentance and making life about “finding out what pleases God” should be what Christians seek for all unbelievers); believers start spending a lot of time living for self and one’s amusement, rather than denying self daily and serving God; partaking of it also goes against many of the other commands to Christians, including that we be separate, be holy, make every thought obedient to Christ, not love the world, not be double-minded, seek heavenly wisdom not the world’s evil “wisdom” (James), not be unequally yoked, to please Christ not self (2Cor 5:15) Cont’d

to get rid of all moral filth (James 1:21), to escape the corruption caused by evil desires (2 Peter 1:4), and all the many commands telling Christians to avoid sexual immorality, even in thought; Christians of past and present have suffered great persecution but the church in safe, wealthy places has been unwilling to give up entertainment that seeks to spit in God’s eye; persecuted Christians in other parts of the world pray for Christians in places like America out of concern that they are lukewarm in their faith.

There’s still more that could also be included here, but altogether, given the warnings addressed to believers in the New Testament, going after the Enemy’s entertainmen has to truly be a cause for concern.

Thank you. Those are excellent points, all of which you would not be able to make had you not been an observer of entertainment. By observing it are you partaking of it? No. In the world, but not of the world. I would argue that one may appreciate craftsmanship and the arts without adopting the values of the craftsman and artist. In this way, the wicked one, despite his murderous hatred and lies, is despoiled of his aims while we give thanks at all times and in places for the Victory in Christ Jesus.

I was very busy today, Fester, with work, fellowship, ministry, loved ones, and housework so I didn’t have time to reply, but I will very soon.

I apologize for how long it’s taken me to reply, Fester. On your first point, that I’m a partaker myself and that’s how I’m familiar with this entertainment, that isn’t an argument you can make. I *was* a partaker most of my life. I grew up in a mainline Protestant in liberal, Catholic NY state. Any Bible-believing Christian was considered a religious nut. The Christian faith was a superstition people needed to get over and people with adult minds didn’t believe in it. Cont’d

While believing the Gospel I also fully followed the world, as Catholics do. I majored in English at a public university, where my professors I see now thought I’d eventually stop believing in Christianity altogether. The world’s arts and “wisdom” are what I pursued.

I don’t, however, go to them for my spiritual food any longer, however. I view them as poison, or something poisoned. Satan is artistic, and he can appear as an angel of light, but that light isn’t the true one. I do keep up on entertainment somewhat, but that does not make me a partaker like someone who approves of this entertainment. We don’t even act the same. Cont’d

Only rarely do I actually partake, and then it’s to see what the enemy is doing and do something about it. I watched Family Guy, for example, so that I could see how bad it was, and that led me to write some its advertisers. I’ve watched it three times and would truly not want to watch it again.

I don’t have a lot more time to write tonight, but I’ll some other conclusions on this. Partaking affects a Christian’s witness. If a Christian prefers worldly, unrepentant thinking to Christian, what message does that send? Jesus said that where He is there His servants would be. What entertainment would He be joined to, and what would He not? Would you agree that secular entertainment has an anti-christian message and is destructive? where is “artistic merit” shown to matter to the Lord to put aside degeneracy, what grieves the Holy Spirit?

Entertainment is also leading the children of Christians away from the faith. When parents don’t seem to love Jesus enough, not to undergo persecution unto death, but just not enough to avoid the entrrtainment offerings created by His enemy, the children’s belief is undermined and they adopt entertainment as a higher authority. That is a price of double-mindedness. We’re told not to *love* the world or the things of the world. As citizens of Heaven, we should bring the activities of Heaven here.

I’ve moved from NY to a Bible belt state, as God has led me, because there I was really on my own. But even here, most Christians around me would be more comfortable with unbelievers than with me. They believe that how modest to be is up to them, for example, though the Bible says differently. And, most Christians of most times and places have followed the Bible. Our time and place is the exception not the rule.

According to the Bible, too, there can’t be peace and joy without coming into agreement with God, and our secular entertainment doesn’t agree with Him. It comes from broken cisterns people have dug that hold no water. If you would get completely away from it for even a short while, you’d be blessed beyond your imagining, I assure you.

Thank you, Faith. I don’t think I could stand to watch an episode of Family Guy once all the way through, let alone three times. I think “partaker” might be too strong a word for me to have used.

As long as we are in the world, it’s devices will be in play. My point in general is that, for those who abide in Christ, there is no other power that gains the victory. “All things are yours,” writes the Apostle Paul. No exceptions. “All things are clean, but not all things are profitable.” The Holy Spirit teaches and admonishes as to what is sin, and this we are given to avoid.

No matter how strong we may be in faith, there is always need for repentance; some being stronger than others. But we know for certain that, as the Word Made Flesh dwelt in our midst, He was not ashamed to be entertained by poor sinners, and was called a glutton and a drunkard because He did not go overboard in pointing out weakness and sin, but bore it in patience and long-suffering.

I rejoice in, and am refreshed by, your faithfulness as you bear the cross you have received. Thank you for following up on this.
