Pope Francis in Corriere della Sera: "Matrimony is between a man and a woman."

News media are reporting that Pope Francis has "approved" civil unions in his just-published interview in Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. I don't see that approval here in his comments, do you?

Corriere della Sera: Many countries regulate civil unions. Is it a path that the Church is able to understand? But to what end point?

Pope Francis: Matrimony is between a man and a woman. The lay states want to justify civil unions to regulate different situations of living together, pushed by the need to regulate economic aspects among persons, for example to assure healthcare. They treat arrangements (pacts) of living together of various kinds, of which they did not know to direct in their diverse forms. One needs to see the different cases and evaluate them in their variety."

Pope Francis states his view, which is the Church's view, on the matter of defining "marriage" or matrimony very clearly: it is between a man and a woman, at the beginning of his answer to the question. His answer is formulated in such a way as to exclude other definitions of marriage, such as between two people of the same sex. He then goes on to discuss the solutions of the "lay state", or civil government, and "their" solutions to arrangements of living together in order to provide secure health care, among other things. The pope simply states that these living arrangements exist, which are not marriages, and that the civil governments, the "lay state", must find some way to regulate them because of needs like health care. The Church does not evaluate human relationships in their variety in order to change the definition of marriage but at the same time does not oppose the provision of health care to human persons; this would be absurd. His comments about civil regulation of relationships outside of marriage does not amount to approval or support for civil unions.

More media spin.

Thanks. I have long suspected that the MSM was taking great liberties when translating him.

During the Super Bowl they kept showing a commercial about “family” and if you look real close at the family members, some of the spots were two sodomites with a couple of kids, two lesbians with a kid. Stuck right in the middle and shown for a split second was a man, woman and child. The media is full of shows showing sodomite “couples”. This is a big hit on TV right now. The media is trying everything in their power to brainwash people (especially young kids) that there is absolutely nothing wrong with a two men being “married” and having anal sex. This is how far our society has sank into the gutter. Not a day goes by that you don’t hear something about the sodomite agenda.

they were planning to “start a family”.

Sexual intercourse has been known to result in the procreation of new human life. Not every time; age, injury, illness, biology, or deliberate malfeasance may prevent it sometimes ... but procreation is in the nature of the act.

Buggery is a different matter entirely. The nature of that act is to cause injury and vector disease ... it is inherently depraved and the result of a mentally and spiritually diseased soul.

We are in a classic death-spiral of societal mass-delusion. It’s seen at the fall of empires and the start of periods of chaos, wars beginning, economic collapse etc.

It’s when the greatest miscalculations are made, for example, sincerely believing that Putin will be chastened and change his behavior, because they scolded him about acting in a 19th Century way, in the new reality utiopian 21st century, where military solutions are passé.

During such periods societies can lunge into insanities such as French or Russian or Chinese hyper egalitarianism etc.

In our case, we are pretending that their is no difference between the sexes, and no other opinions are allowed. Not for marriage, not for military service, etc. In fact, our military now believes (as in actual programs) that it is worth spending 10X more for “green” fuels while planes and ships are scrapped, and putting women into combat.

The Chinese, Russians etc are making the correct assessment that we are in a period of mass-delusion, and are taking advantage of opportunities where they arise, such as Obama-Kerry actually believing that Clinton’s deal with Yeltsin to disarm Ukraine would actually stop future Russian moves in Ukraine and especially Crimea.

They are laughing themselves silly that some fools from a Monty Python skit are in charge of American foreign policy.

But at the same time it is dangerous, because big errors can be made by those fools, possibly in overreaction or triggering an economic war etc.

I’ve never thought that China or Russia has ever wanted to invade and take over the US but I can’t help thinking with your post that they might just say, “Why not?”

We become easy pickings with our stupidity. It’s like the other nations find a $20 nation laying on the ground, all they have to do is pick it up.
