Pope Francis' Popularity not Bringing More into Catholic Church

Pew Research poll finds no change in the number of people who self-identify as Catholic or in the number sitting in church pews on Sundays.

Pope Francis is one of the best-known religious figures in the world, but a new Pew Research poll seeking to quantify his popularity raises questions about the so-called Francis effect.

The poll found an overwhelming embrace of Francis, who has been trying to steer the Catholic Church toward a greater emphasis on compassion for the poor and marginalized. Sixty percent of non-Catholics and 85% of Catholics surveyed said they viewed the pontiff favorably — numbers approaching those of Pope John Paul II, whose peak popularity ratings among Catholics hovered just above 90%.

However, the poll found no change in the number of people who self-identify as Catholic or in the number sitting in church pews on Sundays. Twenty-two percent of those surveyed described themselves as Catholic, the same figure as in the year preceding Francis' election. Forty percent said they attended Mass at least once a week, unchanged from just before the papal transition.

While the survey found a significant increase in the excitement Catholics are feeling about their faith, there wasn't evidence they are volunteering or attending confession more.

I do not attack your church community

Portraying the Catholic church as the only true church in opposition to the scripture is attacking my church. Claiming the works of God as its own is attacking my faith.

so why atttack mine?

Principally because of these.

2 Timothy 4:1-22, 2 Cor 10:3-5, Titus 1:9, Phil 1:12-18, Jude 1:3

I understand it can be hard to hear, but I like any Christian I must obey God rather than man. Acts 5:29 The RF can be difficult, there are ecumenical and caucus threads for those that wish to discuss matters like these in a non-threatening atmosphere. Pliant silence will not do when souls are threatened by false doctrine.

Well I accept those passages also. They are part of the Bible.

That’s good, but know you know the why?

Because the Apostle St. Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit wrote them.

Yes he did, but now you know the answer to the ‘why’ you asked me. Paul wasn’t shy about the Gospel nor was he limited in his reproach to those who would try and change it. He was a great preacher.

So was Peter and John, who are both on the equal level with Paul as great preachers as well.

Different audiences, different tasks, different styles, the men the Lord used for His purposes.

The church was founded on Scripture, not the way Roman Catholic twist it around.

Yet scripture does point out that Jesus says to Peter that he is “rock and on that I will build my church.” Case closed.

Which does nothing to give the Roman Catholic Church permanant pass on all things good and rightous.

That was frittered away centuries ago.
