Archdiocese of Cincinnati expands morals clause in teacher contracts

Catholic school teachers in the Cincinnati Archdiocese will soon see a much more detailed morality clause in their new contracts.

WLWT News 5 obtained a copy of the revised language on Thursday.

At the top, it reads "Teacher-Minister" and the morals clause has grown from a line or two to an entire paragraph.

The new contract clearly spells out to teachers that they must refrain from any conduct or lifestyle that contradicts Catholic doctrine or morals.

The language reads, "Such conduct or lifestyle that is in contradiction to Catholic doctrine or morals includes, but is not limited to, improper use of social media/communication, public support of or publicly living together outside marriage, public support of or sexual activity out of wedlock, public support of or homosexual lifestyle, public support of or use of abortion, public support of or use of a surrogate mother, public support of or use of in vitro fertilization or artificial insemination, public membership in organizations whose mission and message are incompatible with Catholic doctrine or morals, and/or flagrant deceit or dishonesty."

Even if you removed the Catholic-specific qualifications, at least 90 percent of public school teachers would fail.

From the article:
"Moroski said he fears a lot of top talent in the Catholic school system might decide to leave rather than agree to the more explicit terms in the morals clause."

Any "talent" that leaves over an explicit morals clause should have never been teaching in a Catholic school anyway.

They mention cohabitation, pre-marital sex, abortion, homosexuality, invitro, etc, but no mention of contraception. What gives?

And the part about membership in organizations incompatible with Catholic doctrine? That’s going to be a tough one to police. Hell, even the Catholic Church seems to stray from its own doctrine on a regular basis.

Mr. Moroski is a well known agitator and community activist who has been dismissed from the staff of two Catholic High Schools. He knowingly chose to stick a finger in the eye of the Catholic schools who employed him.

Also of note, he made all of the headlines and national TV appearances in preparation for a failed run for City of Cincinnati Council last fall.

” They mention cohabitation, pre-marital sex, abortion, homosexuality, invitro, etc, but no mention of contraception. What gives?”

If you get 80% of what you want...don’t complain about the 20% you’re missing. I’m happy for what it is. Hopefully other dioceses will emulate them. We’ll work on that last 20 later on.

Beautiful! Kudos to the Cincinnati Archdiocese.

The bishop of Santa Rosa, CA, tried to do something like this last year, but, following the predictable outcry from the liberal teachers, parents and media, decided to delay implementation for 21 months. Prayers that he will have the spine to follow through when the 21 months is up.

We should pray that the archbishop will enforce this uniformly and without exception. Then, he will be a true shepherd.

has moroski misquote pope francis to attack the moral clause? liberals love to misquote the pope to justify abortion and gay marriage.
