Campbell Co. girl asked to stop attending school because of her "boyish" looks. In a letter sent to Sunnie's grandmother and legal guardian Mrs. Thompson, the following was written:

"We believe that unless Sunnie and her family clearly understand that God has made her female and her dress and behavior need to follow suit with her God-ordained identity, that TCS is not the best place for her future education."

The responses supporting the school in this manner make me want to hurl. She’s an eight year old girl for pete’s sake.

Christian school. Their rules. If they don’t like it, they need to go somewhere else

Ambiguous rule being applied in a silly context.
So the girl has short hair. How is that non biblical? I had a niece that attended a Christian school. She was very much the tomboy until her teens. No problems or issues with it.

Not siding at all with the “homo agenda”. She’s simply a tomboy.

So if some boy decided to go to this Christian School dressed in frilly dresses and acting like a girl, that you'd support him and call shame upon any school that told him that he couldn't go there anymore unless he dressed and acted like a boy?

I’m a preacher’s kid myself and totally side with the Christian agenda,

Your words don't exactly line up with your claim. This Church has an agenda to promote normal sexual identity and this child and her grandparents refused to cooperate and insisted that she be allowed to flaunt their rules. If the grandparents had insisted that their boy be allowed to go to school dressed as a girl everyday, would you accuse the school of "going too far"? Will you please answer that question?

Gender identity is a big issue right now and this story is being used to try to convince the public that every child has a god given right to choose what sex they want to be. In California public schools children are now allowed to pick and choose which bathroom they want to use based on their subjective idea that they identify with a sex to which they were not born.

As Christians we have an obligation to push back against this. Instead people who call themselves Christian are on the other side pushing this agenda forward in the name of tolerance.

Well the left and the homos have no tolerance for Christians. And the more Christians they can get on board with their agenda, the more likely it is that they will win their culture war and Christians who take moral stands will be alienated and eventually they will either have to submit or be sued or jailed.

I commend the school for standing on principle. Even if you don't agree with their principle, you need to support their right to take a moral stand.

My youngest daughter, who looked anything but like a boy, always said when she was young that she wanted to be a boy.

I made no issue about it and she hit puberty and changed her mind. She was a tomboy for a while, dressed like a boy, but the feminine side kicked in and now she’s all girl.

And VERY interested in boys.

I still pity the boy who tried to get fresh with her. She already put one boy on the ground when she was in junior high with one well aimed blow for trying something. He left her alone after that. :)

I think the grandmother is right and the school is being ridiculous, but they have the right to do that and the grandmother should just put the child in a different school. I doubt that the little girl would be very happy continuing in such a flaky school environment anyway.

Would you feel the same way if the child were a boy and the grandparents insisted that he be allowed to go to school every day dressed in frilly dresses?

Ellie May Clampett turned out just fine, mighty fine, and she just hated to put a dress on. She could whip Jethro’s ass.

"I think there is more to this than the school is allowed do publicly discuss."

Exactly. In a public statement, the school said as much. But that is being conveniently ignored so that some can join in the chorus of outrage.

What exactly do girls dress like?

A dress code this vague is purely subjective. If the school states that all girls shall wear dresses or skirts of a certain style, and this girl repeatedly violates that by wearing pants, then I would side with you. But to say that “girls should dress like girls and boys should dress like boys” is not a rule with any boundaries and consequently lacks any weight.

The grandma’s remark in the video about loving her if she turned out to be “homosexual or transgender” is troublesome. Grandma didn’t have to say that. What does the average grandma know about “transgender”. Just sounded like an odd statement to make.

Aha, there it is. This school is in my town, and I saw the local news report, so I didn't go to the link, assuming it would be the same one I saw. It isn't. In the initial interview, the grandmother didn't go there.

That statement probably sums up the problem.

Tomboy? I was a tomboy.
This girl's "problem" is overeating. If she were a TRUE tomboy she would be thin as a rail, as I WAS.

NOW I go to Weight Watchers because I DIDN'T stay as active as MOST tomboys.

I agree with you. I clicked on the link to see how old the girl is, as I was sure she was a teen based on the school’s reaction. But she is only 8!

The school is overreacting, but, as you said, they have the right to make up their own rules.

I think there is more to this than the school is allowed do publicly discuss.

THAT is the understatement of the day.

Amen to that.
If she were in a Catholic school, she would probably be wearing a uniform--SKIRT for girls. NO, not for boys, even if they wanted it!!

Perhaps. And it sounds like the grandparents are wanting to get a lot of publicity out of this. They have withdrawn the child from this school, yet they are getting the news involved. One wonders why.

Wow! That statement by the grandmother about ““homosexual or transgender” is very telling. I am wondering if this is some sort of deliberate set-up in which the grandmother has been sent by some leftist group to pull this stunt.

Perhaps some FReeper will look into the connections.

OK, so I was completely on the side of the grandparents until this line:

“She said the only disciplinary issue that Kahle might have caused was that she wanted to wear boy’s pants as part of her school uniform.”

So it’s not just that she’s a tomboy. It’s that her g.parents are encouraging her to press the issue to the point that it violates school rules. The child *is* to young to understand all this crap. If she doesn’t want to wear a skirt, the g.parents should’ve told her that this is the uniform - period - and never allowed the issue to get to the school.

I’m sure there is more to this story.

Okay, now that I have learned a little more about this case, I am revising my opinion. Not sure now if the school is overreacting.

Just where in the heck is Campbell County? It would help if you let us know with the headline.
