Aronosky is simply the wrong director for a Biblical epic. I’ve enjoyed several of his films; but he just shouldn’t have helmed this project. It would be like Elia Kazan, who preferred working with method actor types like Brando trying to direct The Ten Commandments in place of DeMille.
