Are There Souls in Hell Right Now?
Catholic.com ^ | April 11, 2014 | Tim Staples

Posted on 04/21/2014 11:30:24 AM PDT by GonzoII

It has become fashionable in some Catholic quarters these days to question where there are now or will ever be any souls populating hell. Hell, it is taught, is a "real possibility," but whether there are any souls actually there, or whether there will ever be any souls there, is unknown to us.

It is, of course, true that hell is a "real possibility" for each of us. And that is a sobering thought. But it is also true that souls are actually in hell now, and will be for all eternity. This is a teaching of our Catholic Faith.

Are you saying that you are not a sinner? No human can be completely pure.

I didn’t say anything about eternal salvation. I approached the subject that we are all imperfect humans and thus are sinners.

Popes are human. They sin too — look at the example of St. Peter who denied Christ three times, but then repented. In fact, I’ve heard it said that Pope John Paul II went to Confession weekly if not more often.

So are you better than Pope John Paul II by saying that you are not a sinner?

” I didn’t say anything about eternal salvation.” Well, then there is no salvation, according to you, right? Or, is there daily, weekly or annual salvation? Kinda like the paganistic folks? You know, by offerings to long past deities?

I am a sinner, just like everybody else. But I am a FORGIVEN sinner. I have been imputed the righteousness of Christ and I know exactly where I’m going!

Who told you that you were forgiven? At least when I go to Confession I hear the words that God forgives me.

How do you know for sure?

Eternal Salvation, by the Roman Catholic church is all you proffer, proscribe and profess by a self-supposed doctrine. Good, you are well worthy of your faith. May the breath of God be upon your shoulders

Aren’t you misconstruing my words. I was speaking about the fact that all humans are born with original sin and thus are sinners.

Do you believe that we are all born imperfectly?

Wasn’t Christ, fully human and fully God born without sin? You aren’t putting yourself on his level, are you?

I would fall at Christ’s feet and ask for his blessing and forgiveness, were I to meet him in person, not put myself on a sinless level with him.

Here is what we profess:

Catholic belief is succinctly expressed in the profession of faith or credo called the Nicene Creed:

The Nicene Creed

I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
(At the words that follow, up to and including "and became man." all bow.)

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Well, then, fall at Christ’s feet. He probably isn’t concerned about that kind of subservience. We won’t be turned away. Good deal.

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).

The disagreement between Catholics and Baptists is that we don't read "if we confess our sins to a priest". I confess daily to God, knowing that Jesus has paid the price for my sins, and that He keeps me safe in His hand. I don't need to hear a person tell me that my sins are forgiven, I can read it in the Bible and believe it.

How do I know for sure? "These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life" (1 John 5:13)

Salvation, we have discussed in the past the "once saved always saved". I know you have very strong opinions about it, and I respect you for it. But neither one of us is going to change her mind, so let's just be Christians, ok?

When the hemorrhaging woman touched the hem of his garment, Christ knew and cared.

How can you say that Christ would not care about someone seeking help?

Because he felt the energy go out of him, he asked about it. Only then did the woman fall at his feet and say she had touched the hem of his garment.
