Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Trees of The Bible

Luke 13

A Second Chance

New International Version (NIV)

1 Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. 2 Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? 3 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. 4 Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”

6 Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any. 7 So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’

8 “‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. 9 If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’”

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

This passage deals with two very important issues. In the first verse, Jesus is asked if people who suffer misfortune, or natural disaster, somehow deserve it because of something they did. Jesus quickly dismisses to idea and explains that "The Rain Falls upon both the just and the unjust." And yet, to this day there are those who continue to "Blame the victim". Perhaps the most egregious example of this is the outcry from the left, after 9/11/01, that, somehow, "America deserved it." Jesus dealt with this question centuries ago.

The parable that follows is another "Tree" Story. In earlier stories, trees that do not bear fruit are cut down. Now there arises an Intercessor, a human being, a hired worker, or perhaps even a slave, who pleads with the Master to give the tree one more chance. Not only does he plead for the tree, he offers to fertilize it, tend to it, and nurture it. He makes a deal with the Master. "If it still doesn't bear fruit after a year, then you can cut it down, but let's give the tree a second chance."

May God Bless the people who give us a second chance, who intercede for us, who take on the commitment to care for us, and who plead with the Master for our very lives.

Come and pray For The Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant Israeli Nation!

"THERE WERE present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.

And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.

Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?

And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:

And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down."
