Shouldn't Bible-believing church leaders be speaking up on "sainthood"? (vanity)

Posted on 04/27/2014 3:47:28 PM PDT by Faith Presses On

With it so much in the news right now that the Catholic Church is making two former Popes "saints." shouldn't Bible-believing Christians, and those in leadership in particular, be pointing out the Bible truth on who is a saint is? The media won't do this themselves, and the Catholic use of "saint" has caused a lot of ignorance on this most important matter.

“It’s funny, the only forum where I get nasty responses...”

The first nasty post I read that involved you, was yours.

You even resorted to name calling. Please. Maybe it’s you.

Why?

Believers are called *saints* in both the OT and NT.

I’m sorry that you don’t have that assurance. You can too, you know.

All you have to do is trust God and believe what He tells us.

Nobody has that assurance. We must all work out our salvation in fear and trembling, by picking up our cross and following Christ.

This is a forum where you can express an opinion as long as it is in lock step with the prevailing winds.

Try expressing an opinion that goes against the national religion here.

Try supporting a thought that does not conform to a southern baptist point of view.

Yikes...you would be better off supporting Al Gore in the main forum.

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

“Personally, I’ve never found any contradictions within dogmatic Church Teaching.”

Contrary to the Church’s dogma changing; One of the beautiful things about the Church is that they don’t change. The Church will debate a subject for literally “hundreds of years” before making a change.

Nobody has that assurance.

Sure we do......

We must all work out our salvation in fear and trembling,

That verse is so often misquoted and taken out of context. It's only part of the sentence that Paul wrote which is this.....

Philippians 2:13-14 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

It's not even our doing.

by picking up our cross and following Christ.

That is not part of that verse. That is not how we are to work out our salvation. Sticking together parts or two separate verses to create a new doctrine is from the enemy.

Nobody has that assurance.

Sure we do......

John 5:24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

John 10:25-30 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name bear witness about me, but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one.”

Ephesians 1:13-14 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Colossians 1:13-14 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 3:3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22 And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

2 Corinthians 5:4-8 For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

Free Republic is pro-God meaning the Judeo/Christian God. Beyond that, neither Catholic nor non-Catholic holds a more favored position over the other on the Religion Forum.

The RC church claims that all persons who have lived their lives in a state of genuine belief in Jesus Christ as their savior - and - have strived toward holiness in their lives, following biblical, Christian guidelines, are saints.

as an ex-Catholic, I call bs on this one. Catholics just say things like this to get Christians from bugging them. It's like a form of taqiyya. I used to do it myself.
