Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Although it is not actually a Tree, the Vine holds a Prominent Place in both the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament. One of the first things Noah did after exiting the Ark was to plant a vineyard, with disastrous results for his family. Wine, in moderation, had deep ritual significance throughout the History of the Jewish People, and continues to this Day with Passover, and the Shabbat Blessings. The Book of Proverbs carries admonitions against TOO MUCH wine, as well it should! In the Book of Daniel, the King drank Party Wine from Sacred Objects stolen from the Temple. The sin was not the wine itself, but the Profane Use of ritual objects. The Scriptures show us how something can be either made Holy or Profaned by HOW it is used.

The Last Cup of Wine in the Passover Seder was used by Jesus to show that His own Blood was to be shed. It is from the Passover Seder that Christians have the Practice of Communion.

The Grapevine itself is, along with the Fig Tree, Olive Tree, and the Palm Tree, one the Major Symbolic Trees of Israel. A huge bunch of grapes, so big it has to be carried by two men, is part of the Seal of the Modern State of Israel.

The Vine can flourish even if it is pruned. In fact, pruning is a very important part of insuring the health of the plant. "Wolves in Sheep's Clothing" do more harm to the Body than an overt enemy could ever accomplish. But, always remember, it is the Father who is the Vine-dresser.
