Honoring Mary, Mother of Mercy

Why do we call Mary the Mother of Mercy?

With both the Marian month of May and Mother’s Day on the horizon, it’s an appropriate time to reflect on this title.

St. Faustina Kowalska tells us she heard Mary refer to herself by this name: "I am not only the Queen of Heaven, but also the Mother of Mercy and your mother" (Diary of St. Maria Faustina Kowalska: Divine Mercy in My Soul, 330).

And Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI spoke of Mary using this title during his Angelus message shortly after celebrating Mass at Amman International Stadium during his Holy Land trip in May 2009.

"During the Mass, I spoke about the prophetic charism of women as bearers of love, teachers of mercy and artisans of peace," Benedict said. "The supreme model of womanly virtue is the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy and Queen of Peace."

A Model for Mothers

The Mother of Mercy is the ultimate motherly model to follow, according to Catholic mothers.

Mother's Day tribute to our Holy Mother.

Hail Mary, Full of Grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of death.

Amen.

I've always been leery of people that hear voices from the dead. To refer to Mary as the Queen of Heaven is not only unBiblical but blasphemous and pagan.

Christ honors his mother. Why shouldn’t we?

**Mary’s Mercy Points to Jesus

St. John Paul II knew well the help our Mother of Mercy could and would give to those who asked her for it. In his 1993 encyclical, Veritatis Splendor (The Splendor of Truth), in the section titled “Mother of Mercy,” he wrote:

“Mary is Mother of Mercy because her Son, Jesus Christ, was sent by the Father as the revelation of God’s mercy (John 3:16-18). Christ came not to condemn, but to forgive, to show mercy (Matthew 9:13). And the greatest mercy of all is found in his being in our midst and calling us to meet him and to confess, with Peter, that he is ‘the Son of the living God’ (Matthew 16:16).”

Consequently, mothers act with great mercy when they lead their children to Jesus.**

Catholic bump.

You can honor her by devoting the attention to her Son, not her. That will do just fine.

Those were her instructions -- BTW, her last words in the Bible.

"Do whatever he says."

“On dark nights we are grateful for the moon: when we see it shining we know there must be a sun. So, in this dark night of the world, when men turned their backs on Him Who is the Light of the World, we look to Mary to guide our feet while we await the sunrise”.

Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

I missed the verse telling us to pray to his mother for intercession. Do you know it?

Hundreds of dewdrops to greet the dawn,
Hundreds of bees in the purple clover,
Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn,
But only one mother the wide world over.

Christ never refers to his mother as a queen.

The Ark of the Covenant is considered a prefiguration of Mary. Likewise, as the kingship of ancient Israel is the precursor to the kingship of Christ, the gebirah (who was the mother of the king) of ancient Israel is the precursor of Mary. Recall Solomon's words to his mother in 1 Kings 2:20, "Make your request, Mother, for I will not refuse you."

Also recall Mary's intercession at the wedding at Cana.

The crowned woman is Revelations, clothed with the sun, is thought to be Mary by the Church as well.

Not by me.

BTW, her last words in the Bible.

At her Son's first miracle. Then nothing she said in the next three years was recorded. Despite that she sure gets a lot of press. While she allegedly said that she was the Queen of heaven, you'd think the Apostles would have known so if it was true and related it in their inspired works. It is glaring by its absence.

Well, therein lies the difference of opinions.

But nobody can say that the Church has no biblical basis regarding Mary.

They have no Biblical basis for calling her the Queen of Heaven. She is never referred to as that.

15 promises our Lady (Mary) gave for praying the Rosary- taken from the How to Pray the Rosary instruction booklet...

Whoever shall faithfully SERVE ME (MARY) by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive signal graces.

I promise MY ( MARY) special protection and the greatest graces to all who shall recite the Rosary.
The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell; it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.

It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, those souls would sanctify themselves by this means.

The soul which recommends itself to ME (MARY) by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.

Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries, shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.

Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.

Those who are faithful in reciting the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plenitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the saints in paradise.
I (MARY) shall deliver from purgatory, those who have been devoted to the Rosary.

The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.

You shall obtain all you ask of ME ( MARY) by the recitation of the Rosary.

All those who propagate the holy Rosary shall be aided by ME ( MARY) in their necessities.

I ( MARY) have obtained from My Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death.

All who recite the Rosary are MY ( MARY) sons, and brothers of My only Son Jesus Christ.

Devotion to MY (MARY) Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

Lots of I, me, my’s.

Miriam, a Torah observant Israeli mother of the Messiah of Israel, has been counterfeited and transformed into a greco roman latin queen of heaven..

What else has been countereited?

It can be safely assumed IMHO that a woman with a crown of stars at her head and the moon at her feet, and clothed with the sun, is a queen.
