Water In The Bible

Exodus 15:22-27

The Waters of Marah and Elim

New International Version(NIV)

22 Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water. 23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.[a]) 24 So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?”

25 Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink.

There the Lord issued a ruling and instruction for them and put them to the test. 26 He said, “If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.”

27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there near the water.

Thank You For Making Bitter Waters Sweet.
Thank You for taking the Difficult Circumstances of Our Lives,
Suffering, Rejection, Persecutions,
And Using Those Things to Give us Strength, Courage, and Wisdom.

We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
The Apple of Your Eye,
According to Your Will and Promise.
We Pray For the People and Leaders of Israel,
that They Will Look to You for the Protection
and Prosperity of their Nation.
We Also Pray For Revival in our own Beloved USA.

We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

If this Passage seems familiar, it is because we recently looked at it in our study of Bible Trees.

The Children of Israel had trekked for three days through the desert, carrying only the water they had from the Nile (from when they were slaves!), and then even that was used up. Imagine their joy at seeing this water from a distance! They rush to the pool only to find out that it is bitter, and unfit to drink!

People, in their search for meaning, use up that which may have sustained them in their past. When they see something new sparkling on the horizon, they rush to embrace it, only to find that it does not satisfy. The disappointment is even worse than the thirst that preceded it. When God "shows" Moses the log to throw into the water, the Hebrew Word for "show" is the same root word as the word "Torah". "Torah means "Teaching". So, in effect, God TAUGHT Moses, about The Law, The Prophets, and the Righteous Branch (The Root of which is the same as the root word for "Nazarene"), all with merely "Showing" him the Log.

Once the Waters are Sweetened, the People eagerly satisfy their thirst. This is like People when they First encounter the power of God in their lives. Then they go to Elim, the Place of the Seventy Palms, and camp there. That is analogous to Life IN God.

Christian Interpreters see the Wood as a "Type" of the Cross, a method of execution that the Romans used Centuries later.

Thank you for this beautiful post this morning....and, the ever present reminder to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

We were there just over a year ago and there is a draw to go back that is stronger than any place I have ever been! The Prayer wall (formerly Wailing Wall) had The Holy Spirit’s presence so much you could feel the power of prayer.

I see daily God’s work and marvel at what He is doing across His world as we pray for Jesus to return.
