Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

In The early days of the Conquest of Canaan, Israel was led by a series of Judges. It was a dark time in Israel's History when "Every man did what was right in his own eyes." The interactions with the Canaanite neighbors were very complex.

Samson, whose long hair was a symbol of his vow of dedication to the One True God, had a deadly fascination with Canaanite women. A cycle of deceit, trickery, vengeance and death ensued when he desired to marry a Philistine. During this conflict, an exhausted Samson comes upon the jawbone of a donkey. God causes the Spring of Living Water to burst forth out of the dead thing on the ground, thus refreshing Samson and giving him the strength to fight another day.

Samson was involved in sin at the time, and it was sapping his strength and straining his relationship with God. Yet God did not let go of Samson. He gave him the weapon he needed (The Jawbone) and the Strength he needed as well, by giving him Living Water.

And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith.

And Samson said, With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jaw of an ass have I slain a thousand men.

And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking, that he cast away the jawbone out of his hand, and called that place Ramathlehi.

And he was sore athirst, and called on the LORD, and said, Thou hast given this great deliverance into the hand of thy servant: and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?

But God clave an hollow place that was in the jaw, and there came water thereout; and when he had drunk, his spirit came again, and he revived: wherefore he called the name thereof Enhakkore, which is in Lehi unto this day.

And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years."
