Continue to remember those in prison
as if you were together with them in prison,
and those who are mistreated
as if you yourselves were suffering.

A song by George Root, detailing the life of a Union prisoner in the Civil War. Tramp, Tramp, Tramp, the Boys Are Marching
http://youtu.be/0heL2Czeraw
Lyrics:
In the prison cell I sit,
Thinking Mother dear of you,
And our bright and happy home so far away,
And the tears they fill my eyes
Spite of all that I can do
Though I try to cheer my comrades and be gay.
Chorus:
Tramp! tramp! tramp!
The boys are marching
Cheer up comrades,
They will come.
And beneath the starry flag
We shall breathe the air again
Of the free land in our own beloved home.
In the battle front we stood
When their fiercest charge they made,
And they swept us off a hundred men or more;
But before we reached their lines
They were beaten back, dismayed,
And we heard the cry of vict'ry o'er and o'er.
So within the prison cell
We are waiting for the day
That shall come to open wide the iron door;
And the hollow eye grows bright
And the poor heart almost gay
As we think of seing home and friends once more.

Heavenly Father
On this Memorial Day, may we remember all those who served and sacrificed for our freedoms ultimately that the Gospel may be proclaimed and Your commands taught. We confess our failure to this high calling. Give us a heart of repentance and forgive our sins.
May we never forget the cost of freedom the blood of our patriots and the cost of Your Son, whose blood covers our sins and bought our freedom. May we remember all those in prison or who are persecuted for Your Names sake. May a special grace and blessing be bestowed upon them.
Keep all those who serve and battle the enemy of our souls whether in flesh and blood or spiritual. Shield our heroes from our foes. And bless our people with Your grace and infinite mercy.
In Jesus Name we pray,
Amen
