Remember our Fox River Socks project for the troops in Afghanistan? I posted the link to a wishlist created by a Catholic chaplain. As you know, socks are really important for soldiers. The wishlist was created for some 1800 pairs of socks and YOU, dear readers, helped to bring it to 100% fulfillment. HERE
Today I had a little feedback which I am happy to share:
Father,
Just got your box of socks and they have been well received. I handed some of them out personally and gave a majority of them to our Chaplain to give during moral calls. All of the Soldiers would like to thank you and your parishioners for taking the time to remember us in your thoughts and prayers. Your actions remind Soldiers that their conflict is remembered and that the nation cares about them. Finally I would like to personally say thank you and hope that you will continue to keep all men and women in uniform in your thoughts and prayers.
Most Sincerely,
Daniel R. Beatty

You are welcome! I am sure I speak for all the readers who participated that helping out was out pleasure.
UPDATE 7 June:
I had a nice note from Fr. Hesseling, who started the socks project for his troops:
Fr. Z,
100% fulfillment!!! Holy cow! I never expected to have such support, Im so thankful to you and your readers.
Heres a couple more pictures from happy soldiers who have new socks to be thankful for
Fr. Jason
He also sent photos!
Much gratitude to all who purchased socks for our military, ping!
God bless our military and God bless the chaplains who serve them.
Is there a way to contribute to the next shipment?
Thank you for the ping! This sock fulfillment was intended for a particular unit. Now that it is 100% fulfilled, it has been taken down from the site. However, here is the Good News! There are other units still looking for socks. You can order them at This Link.
They need lots o socks, friends. They need hundreds . thousands. Why Fox River socks?
Fr. H wrote to me:
Im very grateful for any publicity you can offer to us, and any support you can throw our way. The guys love these socks, they usually buy them on their own if I cant supply them since they are rugged, they are battle proven, and they dont melt or cause further injury when exposed to fire/explosions. Any soldier will tell you that maintaining your feet is almost as important as maintaining your weapon downrange. These socks help in that effort.
Thank you for donating some socks to another unit. God bless you!
Thanks for the info. Ordered some. Is this an ongoing project? Perhaps I can interest my women’s group in taking this on.
They are not provided socks?
From what I understand they purchase their own. When in the military you get a clothing allowance, but unless it’s changed a lot, it doesn’t really amount to enough to replace what needs replacing.
Since they go through so many socks in that region of the country, they need quite a few because it can be awhile before they can get washed again.
Just to add, when our nephews were there they thanks us for care packages, but always said socks were highly appreciated.
They have to buy more than they are issued. I’ve sent care packages to them that consisted of just socks and underwear ... clean undies and clean things to put on your tired feet are morale boosters, especially when they come from simple citizens back home who are letting these folks know we have not forgotten what their sacrifices mean to US.
Yes! Spread the information and get others involved. Our military need socks and these, apparently, are durable ones that are most appreciated.
Plus they are made in the USA!
