For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever. If I whet my glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me. I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; and that with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges upon the enemy. Rejoice, O ye nations, with his people: for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful unto his land, and to his people.(Deuteronomy 32:40-43)

According to the Song of Moses, the Intervention of the LORD against Israel’s enemies comes at the end. It comes at a time when the besieged nation has lost all strength to resist her bloodthirsty enemies, and are in danger of being annihilated. Jerusalem itself shall be taken, and plundered according to the prophet Zechariah.

Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.(Zechariah 14:1-3)

Then shall the LORD go forth and fight…

It is hard for many Christians to realize that when the Messiah returns to earth, He will make war with His enemies. Not just spiritual warfare, but real physical war. Blood will be shed, and people will be killed at his appearing. Isaiah saw Him spattered with the blood of His enemies, (Isaiah 63) and Paul reports that He will destroy his enemies with the very spirit of His mouth and the brightness of His coming (2 Thess 1) .

Ezekiel names the very nations He will come to fight, (All of which happen to be Muslim), in Ezekiel 25-32. The book of Revelation tells us that at that time the “Kings of the earth and their rulers” step out of the shadows to openly oppose Him. And of course Moses taught the people of Israel to sing of it, in this the last verse of the Song of Moses.

The Messiah vows, lifting up His hand as in an oath, that He is “sharpening the sword of his lightning” (lit) , that destructions come upon the enemies of God.

There will be no more delays, the long-awaited time of vengeance is at hand! The LORD himself, to whom vengeance belongs, sets out as a warrior, to execute judgment upon his enemies, those who hate Him. The day of Vengeance will be bloody, for His enemies have shed much blood in their God hatred.

Rivers of blood cry out from the ground of those slain by abortion, as well as the blood of all of those injured and even murdered by the crime waves created by our lawless and God hating societies. Those imprisoned and murdered by the Communists cry out for vengeance. But these all pale in comparison to the blood shed by Islam in its 14 century quest to dominate the world in the name of the blood thirsty pretender god Allah, and his murderous prophet,Mohammed.

The Lord shall make inquiry for the blood of millions of Jews, shed by those who hate God. anti-semitism has been the defining mark of God hatred through the centuries. God has remembered and taken down names and events.

I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; and that with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges upon the enemy.(Deuteronomy 32:42)

The last three words of verse 42, have presented difficulties, which is unfortunate because the KJV rendering, among others, obscures an important truth.

“…the beginning of revenges upon the enemy….” is an awkward rendering of three Hebrew words; merosh par oth oyebh…literally, “Head of the leaders of the enemy”or Head of the chief leader of the enemy.

The reason this is an important distinction, is because the reference to the “head of the enemy” being smitten by the Messiah corresponds to the original gospel in Genesis 3:15,

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.(Genesis 3:15)

Thus Moses references the final end of the Anti-Christ; destined to defeat in the final overthrow of the enemies of God and his repentance and restored people, the “head” crushed by the Heel of the one who himself suffered for our sins.

And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.(Revelation 19:11-13)

The Song ends with a call for all nations to rejoice along with the redeemed people of Israel. Vengeance has been executed, the enemies of God have been crushed, ISrael has been saved and restored to her rightful place! As David Baron says in his book, ISRAEL in THE PLAN OF GOD,

In the last verse we reach the climax and the goal, not only of this sublime song but of all prophecy. It contemplates the time when the purpose of God in the call and election of Abraham and his seed- that in and through them all the families of the earth should be blessed- will be fully realized. When not only shall Israel be pardoned ,cleansed and reconciled, and the land itself be urged from its defilements, and become indeed “The Holy Land”, but when all nations shall walk in the light of Jehovah, and rejoice together with saved ISrael in the blessings of the Messiah’s reign which shall extend from MT Zion,, to the ends of the earth.

Indeed have we not heard from the Apostle Paul of the restoration of Israel,

For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?(Romans 11:15)

Rejoice indeed OH YE Nations! Rejoice with the newly redeemed chosen people! At long last God has avenged the blood of His Servants, and repayed the wickedness of his adversaries! We celebrate not so much the suffering of the wicked, but the manifestation of Divine Righteousness and Justice which has so long been questioned on this earth. God has vindicated himself and all who love Him celebrate!

Finally, the last three words of this remarkable prophecy and song, are weakly rendered, “He will have mercy on his land and to his people”.

Literally it says, He will atone the Land and his people… or “He will make expiation for…”. How can the Holy God take back into favor such sinful, idolatrous, rebellious people? On what grounds could He who is infinitely just, true and Holy, simply forgive them? The Atonement has already been made, the Messiah has shed His precious blood, all that remains is for the Holy People to “Look upon Me whom they have pierced and to mourn for himas for an only Son…Then shall a fountan open up to them for cleansing…”.

Lift up your heads, for the day draws near…Maranatha! Come Quickly dear Lord!!!!

My place of peace is thinking about when the Warrior King rules the earth and the promise proclaimed at His birth is fulfilled “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.” Luke 2:14

I lived in an old military housing development, very quiet, and imagined the days when kids were running around playing. Coming from a large family I associate laughter and grandparents as blessings.
