MARQUETTE, MI -- Marquette’s Catholic bishop, John Doerfler, is standing behind St. Michael’s Catholic Church after it disallowed an openly homosexual man to serve at liturgies and exercise a leadership role.

"One of the qualifications for the public ministry within the Catholic Church is willingness to give witness to the Gospel and the Church's teachings."

Last Saturday, Bob Brown participated in a "commitment ceremony" with his partner of 31 years. The next day, he was told that he would not be allowed to serve at the Mass in any of several roles he had previously fulfilled, nor could he sit on the pastoral council. He has been part of the church for eight years.

The Pastor of a Catholic Church is, under Canon Law, in control. The only thing a bishop can do to change a pastor's mind is re-assign the pastor.

In this case, the Bishop is STRONGLY backing the Pastor of the Church. Case Closed. The Pervert needs to find another church -- hopefully not Catholic.

The IDIOTS IN THE MEDIA

Obviously, these media outlets are on the fast track to hell and apparently work for SATAN!

Well if there was in his affair (and they probably didn’t wait for the “marriage” to do the sex), it sure wasn’t following this man around to the noses of the officials of that parish (or, I believe more likely, they were ignoring it).

I would wager the devil had worked on both sides of this thing for quite a while. I imagine they were quite miffed when he came out! How dare you fool us!

Well said, and well done. This must go out to all parishes, churches, and American Cardinals.

Sadly, even when they “lose” — they still “win.” Because they get to put sob stories in the media like this.

You think this guy was not ingratiating himself with that parish on purpose to set this up?

He knew jolly well this is what they’d do.

That’s the M.O., folks. And it happens to evangelical churches too.

Being able to smell out duplicity sooner would help avoid being “used” like this. But that’s going to take the power of GOD. Not man.

Bishop John Doerfler also has a spine. May we see more of these bishops each and every day!

What I’m wondering is, how could he be serving at Mass in the first place for 8 years and never get the idea that homosexuals are expected to be chaste in the Catholic church? Is he pulling a “Let’s tear the bakery down” moment because they dare to disapprove of him, or is he totally oblivious?

There is SO much more here than is being told.

Ever notice when an article like this comes out the usual Catholic bashers stay away. Wouldn’t it be nice if one actually responded and said the bishop was right. But the bishop happens to he Catholic so they that will never happen. They just ignore the post. Now if the bishop did not back the priest that barred the person in question the bashers would be all over it.

You're right. Heck, I'll do it for them.

Seems there are alot more Bishops with spines these days.

I guess the combined work of Pope John Paul and Pope Benedict is paying off.

It may be too soon to see what impact Pope Francis has...

What this Openly Gay person has done is to cause scandal.

Matthew 18:6; Luke 17:2; and Mark 9:42 all discuss the harm of scandal, and how it would be better to throw yourself into the sea with millstone about your neck than to cause the loss of innocence for anyone.

Clearly, this homosexual has much to answer for on his judgement day.
