Yes, “He is risen!” and the response, “Risen indeed.” Our Greek FRiends even post in Greek.

In the German-speaking Catholic regions until recently the standard hello was : “Gruess Gott” - “God greet you!” as opposed to the now-standard “Wie geht’s?” or “Guten Tag” (”How’s it going?” “Good day”).

I think he’s doing a take on Jeff Dunham’s grumpy old man dummy Walter talking about being a Walmart greeter. “Welcome to Walmart. Get your stuff and get out”. Seriously saying good morning” last I heard was not blasphemy, sinful, nor disrespectful, to anyone including The Lord in any church.

That's neat.

In The Quiet Man, guests announce, "Peace to all in this house!" surely based on Jesus's instruction to the disciples, "When you enter a house, bid your peace to come upon it."

(The reply is, "Wipe your muddy boots!")

That was the tradition. My Parish still uses it. If the priests would just read the words in the book, all would be well. They have a homily, the can say Good Morning there. Just my opinion.

It's not offensive in itself.

It's just part and parcel of the attitude of the priest who:

(1) Likes to add phrases to the collects and to personalize the responses; (2) Likes to drop parts of the order that he finds tedious or replace them with something else he likes better; (3) likes to give homilies about the funny thing that happened to him on vacation rather than about the Gospel reading; (4) likes to take the mic from the pulpit and wander around; (5) likes to deputize 15 extraordinary ministers to communicate 50 people while he sits in the sanctuary . . .

And all the other things we've come to dread.

I am LCMS Lutheran.

We say “He is Risen!” and the response is “HE IS RISEN INDEED!! HALLELUJAH!”

My poor bride was very confused the first Easter we spent with my family.

I concur with all who are saying "Hey, there's a time and a place."

Seriously, nobody's saying "Good Morning" is a mortal sin, it's just inappropriate to a solemn occasion.

How would you judge the propriety of starting a U.S. Marine Corps Flag Ceremony with "Hi there, everybody"? or ending a funeral with "BUH-BY!!"?

The world slides into immorality and this is what a Cardinal is worried about?

The integrity of the Liturgy must be maintained. It goes deeper than aesthetics, though that is important. We time bound creatures are invited to "lay aside all earthly cares, that we may receive the King...." (Orthodox hymn before Communion)

Any word or deed from Priest or Parishioner that distracts us from the eternal to the temporal rightly should be discouraged. And Priests need to be clear on the difference between administering the Sacraments / Mysteries and being a Master of Ceremonies.

i do not see those examples congruent to saying, "good morning..."

Many do see "Good morning," as congruent to "Hi there, folks." But the point is, neither of them is congruent to "The Lord be with you."

The Mass is a great solemnity, much moreso than the Marine Corps Raising of the Colors. That's why we have, you know, RUBRICS.

The black text is the words the priest is to say during Mass. The red text is instructions for the actions he is to perform, such as washing his hands, elevating the Host, etc.
