Petition to Save Holy Innocents Church in Manhattan
The New Liturgical Movement ^ | 8/17/14 | Gregory DiPippo

Many of our readers have undoubtedly heard that Holy Innocents Church, the only church in Manhattan where the Extraordinary Form is celebrated daily, faces the possibility of closure by the Archdiocese of New York. Via Rorate Caeli, which has reported on the situation several times, the following brief video published by our friends at Regina Magazine, shows several nice images of the church’s vibrant pastoral life, and ends with a link to a petition to Cardinal Dolan to keep the church open and operating.

My advice to the parishioners of Holy Innocents:

Don't waste your time. You're going to end up fighting this battle in perpetuity as long as you concede that your church is best left to function under diocesan control.

Go find a traditionalist order and devote your time, energy and financial resources to them. In the long run, the best traditional Catholic churches are those like the Fraternity of St. Peter (whose affiliation with local bishops is very loose, at best) and the Society of St. Pius X (who don't care about local bishops at all).

Why would you waste your time with a "bishop" who has been rendering everything unto Caesar for so long?

The diocese is the authority over Holy Innocents; the parishoners are not able to simply change administration. And the battle waged here is reported far and wide, giving much-needed focus to what inhabits the heart of Holy Innocents: a sense of the sacred. They have no choice but to hold the bishop accountable, before God & man, to lead his flock as Our Lord wills. I can tell you that I cheer and pray for their holy efforts from my beleaguered outpost of Hawaii.

A better question to ask is: What would Jesus have us do?

The essence of the Mass is that it's a MEAL where we are allowed to consume the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus. We can do that at ANY Mass on the planet.

I have been to Mass in odd places. My weirdest was in Cairo, YES the Arab Republic of Egypt. It was a midnight Mass at St. Joseph's.

The priest used several languages for the Mass, some Latin, too. He said the "Our Father" in ENGLISH. Lol. I knew what was going on all the time, because of the zillions of Masses I've attended in my life...but this one was special for me.
The Mass wasn't over until AFTER 2:00 A.M....and our taxi driver, a Muslim Egyptian, HAD waited for us. God bless him.
