Mars Hill is a mega church in Seattle that has made front page news in the Seattle Times. Seems the media wants to demonize Christian churches that have internal problems. I was wondering if anybody here has the inside scoop. Seems our church invited a new church, 'The Seattle Church' over to share our space and sermon for one Sunday. I'm wondering if this is a spin off of Mars Hill. When I do a Google Search to get information on 'The Seattle Church', it always comes up with Mars Hill. Seem the pastor of The Seattle Church was a Mars Hill pastor at one time. Anyway, it seems when a church gets too big, there is always political infighting and the church disappears with many off shoots appearing. Just curious because in it's infancy, Mars Hill rented space in our church.

I know it is full of Thetans and you should stay away from there.
Wasn’t Mars Hill the former church of Rob Bell, who wrote “Love Wins”, denying the doctrines of hell and judgement, and then endorsed homosexual marriage?

I’d be wary of it being just another “feel good” megachurch to me, if it produces ministers like that.
The only Mars Hill I know of is in North Carolina.
I do know that the pastor at Mars Hill made some upset when he stated that only Jesus can save you from your sins and to get to heaven. (Imagine that!!!)
There is the high-profile thing too though. There was a video with the pastor and several Seattle Seahawks players talking about faith.
I saw a headline where some of the satellite churches were accusing the head pastor of “bullying” - but didn't read the article.
Stay away from it: http://www.bizjournals.com/seattle/morning_call/2014/09/mars-hill-church-closing-seattle-branches-laying.html
I recently heard a sermon mentioning this place, is this where the cussing pastor is?
It is an emergent church, a joel osteen type apostate church if this is the one I heard
Two different Mars Hill.
The universalist “Love Wins” Rob Bell is from Mars Hill in Grand Rapids, no relationship to the other Mars Hill churches.
Mars Hill in Seattle was/is Mark Driscoll’s church. He is a very controversial pastor that attracted a different kind of congregation— younger and more “hip” because of the frankness of his sermons and the way he delivered them. Driscoll had separated himself from the “Emergent” movement, which completely went off the rails, and preached a more orthodox Christianity.
Driscoll’s church became very popular and before long became a “megachurch”. Driscoll wrote some controversial books, received more press; the church got even bigger, and so did Driscoll’s ego. Apparently, there is strife in his church now, with former members speaking out against him and accusations of misusing funds.
It sounds as if it’s getting even uglier now, with former members going to the press and even picketing the church. Just bad all the way around. I would try to avoid this one.
I know a little bit about it. My husband is a friend of one of the founders of the church and it sits about 2 blocks from where I work.
The Pastor, Mark Driscoll is a 5 point Calvinist. He believes that God decides who will be saved and who will be damned. That we have no choice in the matter. Stay Away!
Go to a church that teaches the truth; your faith in His Son Jesus is what gets you to Heaven.
They have one in Flagstaff, AZ also.
I wonder if Mark thinks God predestined all this for him? That way he does not have to take full responsibility.

That’s right! Stay away from churches that teach what Scripture says.!
Interesting.
Wrong, but interesting.
