If we've gotta have a Jesuit pope, I wish it could be Joe Fessio.
Scroll up and read the parts in bold, and feel yourself breathing deeper, somehow.

It seems as if there are a quite a few Cardinals whose time would best be spent reading the New Testament over and over and over again. They could even play the audiobook in the car, if that would help them assimilate the content.

The holiness and indissolubility of Christian matrimony, often disintegrating under tremendous pressure from the secular world, must be deepened by clear doctrine and supported by the witness of committed married couples, the Pope said, stressing that these truths must be taught with great compassion. BTTT!

Kasper left himself wide open for each of Fessio’s retorts. He would have foreseen them, if he weren’t accustomed to conversing only with bootlickers.

“However, sources close to the Pope denied this claim, telling CNA that the Pope is not even aware of the book.”
That’s what I assumed - that he didn’t even know about the book.

I love Fr. Fessio! He’s really had to struggle because the Jesuits (don’t forget, he was/is in the San Francisco province) hated him and even managed to shut down the very successful institute he had started at USF.
I had the pleasure to attend a conference at Notre Dame about 15 years ago (where does the time go?) where he gave one of the keynote talks and he was wonderful. And also a very nice, gracious person.
Fr Fessio for Pope!

Back in the late 1980s, when I was looking for a publisher for my book on the morality of nuclear weapons, I finally sent it to Ignatius Press. I was advised that Fr. Fessio was in Europe talking with authors, and that he'd review my manuscript when he got back. One day I got a call from him. He said he had a stack of manuscripts on his desk, and he figured he could reduce it most quickly by starting with the thick ones. Mine happened to be a thick one. He liked it, but suggested that I change the title to A FIGHTING CHANCE, instead of the one I had chosen. I accepted the change and Ignatius Press published the book. I've ever since been amused at the idea of reducing the stack the quickest by tackling the biggest ones first.
