I sometimes have a hard time understanding Pope Francis but I know that he is Pope for a reason. I’m on my third year as an RCIA team member and people who have been afraid to return to the Church are making an outreach because of this Pope. Just give our RCIA program a chance and it will finish the job that he begins by getting people in the door. Once there, the Holy Spirit will take over and during the seven months we have them, the catechumens will be transformed.
Easter Vigil is still one of my favorite nights.
Just like Vatican II increased vocations and intensified love of the Church? I am not so sanguine.
What they will find is not really Catholic anymore. They will discover a protestantized, modernized, sort of grass-roots democracy in religion where Catholic morals and traditions are no longer important or even rejected. The types of people being attracted by this pope are specifically those who reject Catholic moral teaching and that is why they avoided the Church up until now.
Once there, the Holy Spirit will take over and during the seven months we have them, the catechumens will be transformed.
At one time this was true. It is no longer true, we know positively, because contemporary "Catholics" reject true Church teaching on issues such as homosexuality in even worse proportions than the general population. The Holy Spirit is no longer in the picture in a contemporary parish and hasn't been for decades.
Only organizations such as SSPX and FSSP (mostly) remain fully Catholic. These groups are the only reason the Church will endure through this mess including a possible anti-pope.
