Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Character Studies From The Bible

Moses

New International Version (NIV)

1 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me. 2 If you refuse to let them go, I will send a plague of frogs on your whole country. 3 The Nile will teem with frogs. They will come up into your palace and your bedroom and onto your bed, into the houses of your officials and on your people, and into your ovens and kneading troughs. 4 The frogs will come up on you and your people and all your officials.’”

5 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your hand with your staff over the streams and canals and ponds, and make frogs come up on the land of Egypt.’”

6 So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land. 7 But the magicians did the same things by their secret arts; they also made frogs come up on the land of Egypt.

8 Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Pray to the Lord to take the frogs away from me and my people, and I will let your people go to offer sacrifices to the Lord.”

9 Moses said to Pharaoh, “I leave to you the honor of setting the time for me to pray for you and your officials and your people that you and your houses may be rid of the frogs, except for those that remain in the Nile.”

10 “Tomorrow,” Pharaoh said.

Moses replied, “It will be as you say, so that you may know there is no one like the Lord our God. 11 The frogs will leave you and your houses, your officials and your people; they will remain only in the Nile.”

12 After Moses and Aaron left Pharaoh, Moses cried out to the Lord about the frogs he had brought on Pharaoh. 13 And the Lord did what Moses asked. The frogs died in the houses, in the courtyards and in the fields. 14 They were piled into heaps, and the land reeked of them. 15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

A fellow Prayer Warrior privately asked why Aaron was getting to "do" all the miracles. We pondered this together and came to a few possibilities.

First of all, you will remember how unwilling Moses was to do this job, even though God had chosen him. He argued with God about the Plan, saying the people wouldn't believe him, etc. When finally Moses used the excuse of his stammering speech, God delegated the job of "Speaking The Word" to Aaron.

The original Act of Creation came from "Speaking the Word", so it is possible that the office of performing the miracle belongs to the Speaker.

Aaron is later chosen by God to be the High Priest of Israel, and his descendants after. Moses becomes the Lawgiver and Leader, and Aaron becomes the Priest who stands as an intermediary between the People and God. It will be Aaron who brings the Blood Sacrifice to the altar, to atone for his own sins and for the sins of Israel.

One might infer from this that, if God gives you a job to do, the best answer would be
"Here I am! Send Me!"

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Look at this ...

Exodus 7 ...

1 So the Lord said to Moses: “See, I have made you as God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet.

...

8 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,

9 “When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘Show a miracle for yourselves,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and cast it before Pharaoh, and let it become a serpent.’ “

10 So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, just as the Lord commanded. And Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent.

11 But Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers; so the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments.

— — —

Note that Pharaoh spoke to Moses, not to Aaron. And then Pharaoh spoke to the wise men, sorcerers and magicians ... while Moses spoke to Aaron to do what he did.

It was Pharaoh on one level to Moses, and them magicians and sorcerers on another level to Aaron. That demonstrates the relationships to one another.

The “word” or “command” came from Pharaoh, and likewise it came from Moses, indicating who spoke and who was in charge (and of course, “behind the scenes” it was Satan and God).

Indeed, we talked about Moses “as God to Pharaoh” the other day when we were in Exodus 7. Pharaoh was considered a “god” to his people as well, and God was not only judging Egypt, but judging their “gods” as well!

Thank you for sharing that! As we can see, there are many levels of meaning in these scriptures. :-)

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"Four Plagues Of Egypt"
From The Golden Haggadah
British Library

_ ND the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me.

And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs:

And the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into thine house, and into thy bedchamber, and upon thy bed, and into the house of thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thine ovens, and into thy kneadingtroughs:
And the frogs shall come up both on thee, and upon thy people, and upon all thy servants.

And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch forth thine hand with thy rod over the streams, over the rivers, and over the ponds, and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt.

And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt.

And the magicians did so with their enchantments, and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt.

Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Intreat the LORD, that he may take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may do sacrifice unto the LORD.

And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Glory over me: when shall I intreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses, that they may remain in the river only?

And he said, To morrow. And he said, Be it according to thy word: that thou mayest know that there is none like unto the LORD our God.

And the frogs shall depart from thee, and from thy houses, and from thy servants, and from thy people; they shall remain in the river only.

And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh: and Moses cried unto the LORD because of the frogs which he had brought against Pharaoh.

And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and the frogs died out of the houses, out of the villages, and out of the fields.

And they gathered them together upon heaps: and the land stank.

But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.

It’s heartening how God used a flawed man like Moses in a mighty way. As for stammering, it some a few have been mightily used in difficult days - Winston Churchill and King George VI (of the King’s Speech).

Joining in lifting up in prayer, left that other side, Israel, our beloved America, and all God’s people, especially those who are persecuted.
