WEST WYOMING — In a voice soft with contrition, Father Leo McKernan confessed.
“Poor judgment on my part,” he said when we spoke on the phone.
Now the good people of the parish of St. Monica must decide whether to forgive this man known for his rabid anti-abortion views and dedication to what the church calls “pro-life.”
The Roman Catholic priest from the Diocese of Scranton admitted he was wrong to approve the showing of a 14-minute “movie” to a religious instruction class of 11-year-olds, sixth-grade innocents who will shape the soul of the Church for generations to come.
No one asked the children’s parents for permission, either.
The woman who taught the “CCD” class — short for Confraternity of Christian Doctrine — allowed her “zeal to overcome her common sense,” the priest said.
Parish parents know her well. Some accuse her of sharing McKernan’s zeal as an enemy of abortion, a Constitutionally protected right that she and he call murder. One parishioner said he and his wife regularly become uncomfortable during Mass because the priest works his hatred for abortion into his sermons whenever he can.
If, though, the priest and the “teacher” truly respect the sanctity of life, why inflict a gruesome, bloody and violent dramatization of an abortion into the lives of the most vulnerable — the very children they claim they want to save and protect?
One child sat stoically through the film, facing a wall and refusing to look, her mother said when she called WILK to talk with me on the air. A little boy came home and opened up about what he saw, adding that the teacher had also once passed around plastic figures of a fetus in various stages of gestation, his mother said.

Parents worry? Parents worry? One thing they won't have to worry about is their little precious snowflakes ever having an abortion after this! Thank God for Father Leo McKernan and might I add we need 1000 more like him??

Given the fact that by 11YoA, kids are taught that sodomy is OK and that one MUST ABSOLUTELY have sex or go mad, and that they can get contraception with no questions asked, showing this video is a GOOD thing! They need to understand the CONSEQUENCES of their actions and that ALL actions have CONSEQUENCES!
Given the fact that kids this age and younger are already targeted by planned parenthood in the schools yes this video should be shown to them in every single church that calls itself “Christian”.
Kids today can obtain an abortion without their parents ever knowing or finding out. Kids need to know the truth at a young age because planned parenthood goes after them at a young age!!!

Have you seen the video games they play??? Have you seen the blood and gore on tv/movies lately? These idiot parents would object to this but wanna bet some of them have “Grand Theft Auto” in their homes???? I hear some of those games are so violent they allow one person to rape another.
I think it was perfectly fine for 11 and 12 yo’s in the church. Give them truth before the baby killers brainwash them. Now, I am assuming that the video was not grotesque. Maybe it was. But I’ll bet that all the complainants have allowed their kids to watch gore which would make this film look like a picnic at the park. Bob

That may be true but they weren’t asked if they wanted their kids to see this-——maybe they would have allowed it.
Parents should make decisions like this.

This reporter is confused. I mean if abortion is not killing a human life, how can he describe a medical procedure as “gruesome”. To this reporter, it should be no different than a film showing how a mole is removed.
I’m torn on this. I’m not sure the gruesome content is appropriate for 11-yr-olds without parental notification, but in a year or two Planned Parenthood will be glad to perform that gruesome procedure on the girls in the class without parental notification. That’s far more outrageous, if you ask me.
