It was ages. And furthermore, whether it was billions of years or a week does not matter a whit to the message of Jesus and to our salvation.
Jesus never said you must believe 6 days to go to heaven. This is a silly parlor game like how many angels can dance on a pin.
This old testament stuff really doesn’t matter. Beyond curiosity, all you need is found in the new.
It all matters. The problem is that people are expecting the bible to be a science textbook. It isn’t.

if those were ages, how many thousands of years did we have life on Earth when there was no sun?
Jesus would really disagree with you there. He lived and taught God's Word as written in the Old Testament all his life on earth. And 2 Timothy 3:16 says that "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." And remember, the scripture mentioned here is the Old Testament, as there was no New Testament at that time.
