Francis had invited Bartholomew to present his encyclical on ecology. Zizoulas, one of the greatest Orthodox theologians, will do it in his place. Mary is much more important than the apostles. Forcing migrants back in Asia is not an attitude inherent to a continent that has a mystical treasure-trove. Similarly, the fundamentalism found in some parts of Pakistan where Christians were burnt alive for bearing the Gospel is not inherent.
Rome (AsiaNews) Pope Francis today proposed that all Christians celebrate Easter at the same time. He did so, noting that The Catholic Church has been willing since Paul VI to set a date and give up the first solstice after the full moon in March" by which Easter is established.
He must the proposal to find an agreement during a highly ecumenical meditation pronounced in Spanish during the third world retreat for priests, which brought together in the Basilica of St John Lateran about a thousand priest from 90 countries and 5 continents.
With ecumenical goals in mind, the pope said that he had invited the Orthodox ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to present his encyclical on ecology. "We are friends, he said, but he had a commitment, and so sent the Archbishop of Pergamum Zizoulas. This way, the encyclical will be presented by one of the greatest Orthodox theologians.
Ex oriente lux, former occidente luxsus, said the pope in relation to Orthodox Christians. "From the Orthodox East and its Asian part comes the light" of spirituality, while the West exports "luxury, hedonism, consumerism," all things that are causing "decadence," said the pontiff. Indeed, he emphasised Asias spiritual reserves, noting the cultural and pastoral contributions from the Churches in Japan, Korea, Thailand, and others

Why?
We do not know the exact date.
The Pope has no such authority anyway.
Socialist.
The problem with getting a single unified date where “all Christians celebrate Easter” is that even if the Vatican and all the Orthodox patriarchs around the world (including the old calenderists) signed off on the same day, there’s no guarantee any of the protestant churches will sign off on it. They pretty much do whatever they want and there’s around 600 million of them worldwide, with a growing number of “non-denominational” Christians who have no hierarchy.
Easter? You mean Ishtar.
—the fundamentalism found in some parts of Pakistan where Christians were burnt alive for bearing the Gospel is not inherent.—
What does this mean? That just because Christians got burned alive for preaching the Gospel is nothing to get excited about, because burning Christians is not fundamental to their belief system?
Hey Franky Baby, “at this point what difference does it make” as long as it is celebrated??
The Orthodox patriarchs have no authority to change the date of Easter (Pascha).
They are not autocrats who can act by themselves.
The Orthodox faithful would not tolerate such imperial actions. Only an ecumenical council can change the declaration of an ecumenical council (Nicea).
At this point, what difference does it make.
Better check the muslime calendar to ensure it doesn’t interfere with some muslime celebration.
Has he appointed himself emperor of all of Christianity?
This guy needs to learn that he doesn’t speak for me.

Yep. And he probably needs to make sure Easter doesn’t interfere with Earth Day.
This guy is from somewhere way out in left field.
No, Pascha. It is unfortunate that the name for this great feast in English is derived from a pagan name. The feast of Easter/Pascha itself, however, existed long before the name for it in English was adopted.
Um, I checked my calendar and I have next Thursday open. How does that work for everyone else?
Ceding authority to one fallen man is as inherently dangerous to Christianity as it is to government. There is no harm whatsoever in the celebration of Christ’s resurrection on different dates, and I suspect the motives of anyone who would seek to “harmonize” its worldwide celebration.
Just as with Obama, you never know what kind of pointless pronouncement this man will make next. What does this have to do with calling people into the Christian faith? Nothing.
A good idea but premature prior to reunification of Catholics and Orthodox.
Isn’t the point of the date, to coincide with the date of Passover?
Easter vs Pascha. Think of “Easter” as a pagan name captured and taken over for Christian usage. As in the Age of Sail — the Brits capture a French frigate as a prize of war, and make it a warship in the Royal Navy.
Christians are not bound to Rome’s holy days or any other part of her ecclesiastical calendar. We celebrate the resurrection of Christ every week.
“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.” (Colossians 2:16-17)
