In May, I traveled to Georgia from my home state of Maryland. It was so refreshing to hear a priest preach about the dangers of redefining marriage. I told him so after Mass.
The memory of the Martyrs is kept very much to the foreground in Orthodox worship. The Great Martyrs George the Trophy-Bearer, Demetrios the Mhyrr-streaming, Theodore the General, and many others, including the women Martyrs Thekla, Barabara, Fotini, and Paraskevi are recalled by name at the Intercession of every Orthros and in the Prothesis (preparation of the Eucharist).
Unfortunately, in modern Latin practice the Martyrology is only recited in Eucharistic Prayer I—the Roman Canon—which has all but fallen into total disuse. Two generations of Catholics raised on the Pauline missal have only a vague awareness of the price paid for the transmission of their faith.
That’s right; the pope should wear frayed cutoffs and a T shirt like I have on today. Re-glued the soles on my tennis shoes last night as well.
Not one mention of Vatican II as the cause for this mess. Is it any wonder why most Catholics continue to feed off of this so-called “comfort Catholicism” (which really isn’t Catholicism at all)?
When the hierarchy starts putting blame where it belongs and returns to the pre-Vatican II Faith, then we’ll see Catholics actually being Catholic.
These seem to be true words not only for Roman Catholicism, but for all of Christendom.
Bumping your comment. While not a RC, I too have gratitude for the Good which the RC Church and her people have done... and many are doing.
The call to Spiritual Arms is valid, and too many in the leadership of ALL Christian churches are failing on this point.
