You forgot to ask the question "Why do we fall short?"
Joh 3:19-20 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.
So, no, there are no good people and they like it that way. Only God can change the heart.
God does indeed change the heart if any sinner believes on Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Good works are fruitless and ultimate vanity, as is all religions of the world, only faith in the Good Work of God by Jesus Christ, He who was with sin and willingly gave Himself for Sinners, can save a man. It is not church going or countless denomination prayers, but rather faith alone by grace alone in Jesus Christ alone that can and does save a man from death and hell.
