>>Though God does. He set the building of Earth in motion.

Tectonics are the actions of physics. Despite their seeming indifference to humanity, humanity could not exist without their actions.<<

Excellently stated. Should a Vesuvius level disaster occur God will be ready to receive and comfort His children.

My point is just how immensely powerful Earth is and how tiny man is next to it. If this volcano blows, the only possible thing humans can do is not be there.

Will need vast expansion of heated greenhouse for 2 to 5 years. Expect loss of production of typical grains. Grow short season varieties like buckwheat if sufficient conditions. So goes meat production with loss of grain supplement to any available grass. Raise goats, pigs, fish. Orchards may survive but not be productive. Dim sunlight affects all aspects of farming / ranching.

May take extended time for atmospheric currents to transport dust and aerosols below the equator into that hemisphere, which might allow agriculture and so on to fare a bit better. Concentrate some effort toward expansion of production in friendly land regions—Australia—South America.

Forget air travel for a long duration—months to years for ash to be removed by cloud droplets. Perhaps advanced dust separation could be devised for turbine engines at a performance penalty. This ash problem would also be shutting down natural gas fired electrical generation turbines as well—any turbine engines at all will suffer.

Coal fired boilers and nuclear will have a resurgence! Solar will ineffective—dim light and dust fouling. Wind???

Fine particulate, in this case smog in China’s Henan province, blocking sunlight. The Romans left written descriptions about how various eruptions blocked sunlight for extended periods; and, the consequences suffered.

Imagine the premium on piston engine air transport. Probably a lot easier to upgrade filtration on them.

Something like this is probably the highest probability for a global type event. It’s not going to be TEOTWAWKI, but it’s going to play merry hell with economics and pricing in the US, and it will probably destroy some nations.

THIS is as good a reason as any to have food preparations. It makes me wonder if the government hasn’t been frontrunning this on probability based on their EOs and agency purchases.

I like that word Haruspex. Are Haruspex and augur interchangeable? I was awarded a Boy Scout merit badge for augury.

Um, sort of. Augury comprehends the idea of a Haruspex.

https://www.britannica.com/topic/augury

“Augury is the prophetic divining of the future by observation of natural phenomena—particularly the behaviour of birds and animals and the examination of their entrails and other parts, but also by scrutiny of man-made objects and situations.” Cicero wrote a book on it, “De divination.”

In its milder forms the Augur worked with living birds. Drop some feed, see how they act. If they don’t eat it, its a bad sign. Are they flying? How are they flying? Do they drop dead and fall from the sky? Again, a bad sign.

A Haruspex specifically practiced “extispicy—studying the organs of animal and human sacrifices.”

I divine that Because you have received a merit badge in Augury you must be a time traveler from Ancient Rome...which did not have boy scouts. Or perhaps you are an anachonist who is living a bit out of time.

If you want to specialize and become a Haruspex, consider a job at your local abbatoir! Keep in mind the experience of Saul and the witch of Endor in their attempts at necromancy and that you are no longer in a Roman society, but a Judeo Christian society. (I do not think there much of a market for this skill any more and certain religious proscriptions against it.)
