Father God,
Author of all Creation, Mystery of Mysteries,
We praise Your holy Name, the Name Above All Names, the Great I AM!
In You we live and move and have our being; in You we trust. Hear our prayer for our nation, precious Lord, as this year draws to a close:
Invest our elected leadership team, we pray, with the wisdom and discernment always to know what time it is:
Which offices, traditions, and programs should be born, and which should die out of our vast Federal government; guide them, Lord.
What new initiatives to plant, and when to harvest the results;
What old alliances—within our nation and with other nations—should be ended, and which healed and mended;
Which problems and challenges need to be broken down, and what must be built up.
Father, as many of us dance for joy in anticipation and celebration of the coming Inauguration, we pray for a healing for our fellow citizens who are weeping at the thought of Republican conservative Christians stepping back into leadership. Comfort their hearts and revive in them patience, courage, a wait-and-see attitude, and a balm according to Your Word for the fears that trouble them. May they seek and find true salvation in You, and not in politics or social engineering.
It is time to cast away obstacles to material and spiritual progress, and to gather the building blocks of a firmer foundation for our national health, education, economy and ethos. Lead us and empower us, Father God.
Let us with Your help, embrace the future with courage. Help our citizens, Father, to refrain from embracing that which would satisfy special interests in the short run but harm the body politic in the longer term. Teach forebearance, continence, self-control, and self-respect through every supernatural means, we pray. For You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and a sound mind.
Prepare us, Lord, for losses on the way to greater gains in the coming four years. May a spirit of cooperation and sacrifice for the good of all descend on our land. May we conserve whatsoever things are true, honest, just, pure and lovely, according to Your Way, Father. May our media reflect a good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, may it be reported, and may the People think on these things.
Our divided nation, our torn heart, our tattered standing at home and abroad—may these past 70 years of disloyalty, infiltration, usurpation and decay become a fading memory. The time has come to stitch our Founders’ vision, our selves and our national honor back together: e pluribus unum.
Guide the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts, Lord God, especially those words of our top leadership in the Trump Administration. May the things that must be said, be said aloud and clearly, so that all may understand. May the things that should be silent remain silent, especially as regards the safety and security of our nation and the troops and peace officers who put themselves on the line for us all.
Father, we pray You to continue Your sorting and threshing of love from hate, and hate from love. May the lines be ever more clear, so that our people young and old will not be deceived. May we hate the acts of the devil, but love the victims of his snares and pray for them. May we love our nation, and hate whatever seeks to destroy Your will for this nation, boldly standing up for Your Presence here among us, so that Your Son will stand up for us on the Day of Judgment.
Where there has been complacency leading to ruin, let us put on the whole armor of God to make spiritual war against the forces of evil. Where there has been unjust war and displaced peoples conducted in our name—especially in the middle east—bring peace, we pray.
For it is time.
