Polish Parliament Recognizes Coronation of Mary as Nation's Queen

Warsaw, Poland, Jan 18, 2017 / 06:08 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Poland's government has adopted multiple resolutions establishing 2017 as a Jubilee Year for the country, celebrating the 300th anniversary of the first canonical coronation of the image of Our Lady of Czestochowa.

“Polish Sejm, convinced of the special importance of Marian devotion for our homeland – not only in the religious aspect, but also social, cultural and patriotic – establishes 2017 the Year of the 300th anniversary of the Coronation of the image of Our Lady of Czestochowa,” the resolution of the lower house of parliament stated.

More than 94 percent of Poland’s population being Catholic, the image of Our Lady of Czestochowa, also called the “Black Madonna,” has a significant meaning for Poles and is highly venerated throughout Europe.

In a resolution adopted Dec. 15, 2016, the Polish parliament called “the image of the Mother of God at Jasna Góra… one of the most important religious and material national treasures.”

Although the image was crowned Queen and Protector of Poland by King John II Casimir in 1652, its first canonical coronation was by Clement XI on Sept. 8, 1717, which is the date of the anniversary. Additional coronations of the image were also issued by St. Pius X in 1910 and St. John Paul II in 2005.

A canonical coronation is a pious institutional act, wherein the Pope, through a bull, designates a crown or stellar halo be added to a Marian image under a specific devotional title in a particular area or diocese. The crowning of Our Lady of Czestochowa was the first such coronation to take place outside Rome.

For the Jubilee, the Polish bishops’ conference has created a free smartphone app that sends out a “Marian thought” every day just before 9pm, the hour of the..........

    With respect to Mary
  1. The sun, moon, and stars imagery in Revelation also appears in Genesis.
  2. In Genesis, Jacob interprets the dream; the sun is Jacob, the moon is Rachel, the stars are Joseph's brothers, and they all bow down to Joseph.
  3. In Revelation, the woman gives birth to Messiah the King, is clothed with the sun, the moon is under her feet, and she wears a crown of twelve stars.
  4. The author of Revelation is the Apostle John, who was with blessed Mary at the cross and to whom Jesus entrusted his mother as John's mother too.
  5. To be symmetric with Genesis suggests the woman in Revelation is a real person, just as Joseph was a real person. The woman is encompassed by Israel (patriarch(s), matriarch(s), and tribes (12)). She gives birth to Messiah (men don't give birth to Messiah; Israel is masculine, Jacob's special name; the Church did not give birth to the Messiah, the Church is the body of Messiah in a special mystery).
  6. That leaves Mary, the handmaid of the LORD, the mother of "God with us" whom all generations shall call blessed, who cannot be separated from her people Israel, her people the Church, or her God.
  7. It is also clear who her adversary is, yet some of the passage is unclear to me as to whether it refers to the journey to Egypt alone or combines other events.
And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth? And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.

And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne. And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days. And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child. And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood. And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth. And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

>>“Yes, God commanded the Israeli’s to build the cherubim. Primary difference being here...God commanded this to be done.”<<

So we can only do what God EXPLICITLY commands now? You own at least one Bible do you not? Where does God command that the Word be translated into English? Where does He command that it be printed on paper rather than handwritten on papyri? Where does God command that anyone build a church building or a Christian hospital or orphanage?

You know...I expect a better argument from you.

There are prohibitions on idolatry in the Old and New Testament.

I've already given ONE passage from the OT....BUT THERE'S MORE. "You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. EX 20:4

so that you do not act corruptly and make a graven image for yourselves in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female, DEUT 4:46

You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. Deut 5:8

'You shall not make other gods besides Me; gods of silver or gods of gold, you shall not make for yourselves. Ex 20:23

For the sons of Israel will remain for many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar and without ephod or household idols. Hosea 3:4

'You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, Deud 5:9

Little children, guard yourselves from idols. 1 John 5:21

Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written, "THE PEOPLE SAT DOWN TO EAT AND DRINK, AND STOOD UP TO PLAY." 1 Cor 10:7

The Scripture is clear on this...AVOID IDOLS!

>>“And what’s revealed in Scripture about Mary is very limited though telling. It reveals she was a sinner in need of a Savior,”<<

Nope. No where in scripture does it say, “Mary was a sinner.” See, amazingly, this is where the anti-Catholic - who insists he goes by scripture alone - gets caught making up things that are not in scripture while insisting they are. This is so commonly resorted to by the anti-Catholic that after a while you see it coming long before it happens. You just know the anti-Catholic will throw out Romans 3:23 or even Luke 2:24. and, of course, trying to explain to someone who isn’t interested in the truth that Mary having a Savior doesn’t mean she sinned bu that her Savior saved her from becoming a sinner altogether is a huge waste of time because the anti-Catholic simply doesn’t want to understand or believe. The anti-Catholic is not interested in what is good, true or beautiful. No, he’s just interested in attacking the Catholic Church.

Wow...the catholic disregard of Scripture is noted not only on the issue of idols but this topic as well.

Not even the much heralded ECFs are in agreement on this and some are in agreement with the Scripture that all have sinned...this would include Mary. Catholicism's own encyclopedia online tells us there is no Scriptural support for the Immaculate Conception.

The Greek for "all" in Romans 3:23 indicates everyone has sinned...Mary included. Paul did not make note of an exception for Mary. If anyone would know I think he would.

Luke also noted Mary offered the sin offering as required by the Law. She recognized her position as a sinner in need of a Savior.

>>“She saw her Son crucified and was placed in John’s care.”<<

Because she had no other children. You just proved my point for me. Thank you!

I forget you like to get Clintonian and parse words.

To be clear, her firstborn son was crucified and she was placed in John's care.

The Greek in Luke 2:7 for first born is πρωτότοκον. If the good doctor had meant to say Mary had only one child he could have used μονογενής meaning only, only-begotten, unique (Jn 1:18, 3:16 for examples).

That Luke did not is telling. Recall, he was a doctor and had researched his account through people who were "eyewitnesses and servants of the word."

She was placed in John's care as it is believed His brothers and sisters did not believe in Him as Savior at this point. We do see later though that His family did become believers...at least His brothers (Acts 1:14)

"You know...I expect a better argument from you." What I posted you can't deal with. "There are prohibitions on idolatry in the Old and New Testament." Sure are - and we don't worship statutes. Yet you will continue to claim we do anyway. "Catholicism's own encyclopedia online tells us there is no Scriptural support for the Immaculate Conception." Even if the CE said there were no EXPLICIT scriptural verses telling of the Immaculate Conception, it never says there is no support for it. There is, in fact, a section in the CE on it called "Proof from Scripture". You either NEVER READ THE ACTUAL Catholic Encyclopedia on this or you're simply being dishonest. Those are the only two possibilities. So which is it? So, here we are again: "To Protestantism False Witness is the principle of propagation." (John Henry Newman, Lecture 4. True Testimony Insufficient for the Protestant View). "The Greek in Luke 2:7 for first born is πρωτότοκον. If the good doctor had meant to say Mary had only one child he could have used μονογενής meaning only, only-begotten, unique (Jn 1:18, 3:16 for examples)." Forgive them Lord, for the anti-Catholic is ill educated and often lacks basic knowledge! "Firstborn" is not a statement about number of children, but about the Law. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firstborn_(Judaism) The Firstborn is called the Firstborn even if no other child is born. "Exodus 13:1-2 reveals something very important about the firstborn in Israel: "The Lord said to Moses, ‘Consecrate to me all the firstborn; whatever is the first to open the womb among the people of Israel, both of man and beast, is mine.’"" https://www.catholic.com/magazine/print-edition/the-case-for-marys-perpetual-virginity

And, of course no such pictures will show up. Instead, what might happen - as has happened dozens of times - is pictures of people praying in front of statues (NOT TO statues) will be posted and the poster will dishonestly claim they show idol worship when they don’t.

Catholics honor Mary, not worship her.

The book Rome assemble has her say, "All nations will call me blessed."

I've yet to find where any will crown her queen.

Either state correctly what Catholics believe, or kindly keep your ignorance to yourself.

Who can really can what you individuals REALLY believe; but I can sure POST what has been written and approved by Rome.

The mother of the King is always the Queen Mother, even in the Bible.

Perhaps SHE should have SAID something like that for the record:

All the Words of Mary...
...as recorded in the Bible.

 ...To the angel
“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”
Mary answered. “May it be to me as you have said.”   (Luke 1:30-38)

...To Elizabeth
And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me—holy is his name. His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, even as he said to our fathers.” (Luke 1:46-55)

 ...To Jesus
His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”  (Luke 2:48-50)

... at Cana
And when the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.”
His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it” (John 2:3-5).

That God commanded that statues of Angels be built and placed in the Temple is more telling. Go on, complain about God now.

As soon as you show this 'event' in scripture; I'll tell GOD what I think about it!

Angelic status is not attributed to cherubim in the Old Testament (at least not explicitly);[3] only in later sources like De Coelesti Hierarchia are they identified as a hierarchical rank of angels.[4]

Yes, we agree that to the extent people “worship” her as a deity, it’s wrong. Catholics do not, however; if they do, they’re in grave error.

But when we explicitly re-state Biblical exhortations to Mary, reflect on her life as the closest human to Jesus, and ask her (and other saints) to pray for us to live in God’s will, it is positive. Don’t you agree that the Holy Spirit is revealed through other living people, as well as through Scripture? Mary is living, in heaven, right?

My main point, however: let us be. We come in peace :-)
