Senator Tim Kaine met with Pope Francis after attending a general audience with him on Wednesday.

Kaine and the Pope discussed the Holy See’s work to address the global refugee and migrant crisis, according to the senator’s office.

“As the Pope stated so clearly yesterday, it is a ‘moral imperative’ to protect and defend the ‘inalienable rights’ of refugees and respect their dignity, especially by adopting just laws that protect those fleeing dangerous or inhumane situations,” said Kaine in a statement.

Kaine also participated in a discussion focused on Latin American issues with Vatican officials and members of other religious orders and meet with the Jesuit Refugee Service to discuss its work with refugees and asylum seekers.

On Friday Kaine will deliver an address in London at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, known as Chatham House, titled “The Truman Doctrine at 70.”

He will discuss the historical significance of the Truman doctrine, new strategic challenges facing the United States, future of the transatlantic partnership, and the continued importance of America’s leadership role in a changing world, his office said.

Probably a condolence visit and I''m pretty sure the topic of abortion was never discussed.

From that look on Frankie’s face, even he knows a shyster politician when he sees one. I’ll bet he told his staff to keep a close eye on the collection plates.

Honestly, I’ve had enough of this pope.

Pretty hard core Protestant here....but I was a huge fan of JPII and Benedict. How could you not be? Such forces for good in the world.

But this guy sickens me. Sorry to offend, but really, he just makes me ill.

Wonder if they discussed abortion and requiring Catholic facilities to fund abortion. Also wonder if they discussed requiring Catholic facilities to place orphans with gay couples.

If they did or didn’t, the article should have pointed it out.

I hate the MSM.

I still wonder if Tim Kaine had anything to do with the infamous dirty dossier. Kaine, along with McCain, was in Halifax for that security conference.

The Catholic Church has prime real estate all over the world. They should sell it and support ALL refugees. Show us the way Pope Francis... do it by example.

Kaine will do no such thing. He may read something from a script, but discussing such topics? Hahahahahahah!!!!

Hey, Kaine ... he also calls abortion a “horrendous crime” and “very grave sin.” Are you listening to that?

Revoke Kaine’s passport while abroad. He can hole up in a date-rape van parked outside of the Vatican wall.

That's not really true anymore. Lately, Pope Francis been referring to abortion as merely an "interruption in pregnancy".

I would really like to know why all of these congress critters believe that they should go and visit all of these heads of states and other country heads on their own to try to mash out what they see as problems within the U.S. and/or the world. They were only elected in the U.S. Congress and not elected to be world leaders.

Why do they believe that they should be talking about the U.S. affairs and even other countries affairs, on their own or for their party without the expressed consent of whomever the President of the U.S. is? And, why do these other country leaders allow these visits?
