The Greek word in Matthew 5:5 is actually “meek”, not “gentle”. Meek and gentle are not the same. To be gentle means to reach out without doing harm or violence. To be meek means to receive what comes your way without a violent or adverse response.
That’s the best not way I’ve read it myself. Gentle?
