Moscow, August 17, Interfax - The Justice Ministry has put the Jehovah's Witnesses on the list of organizations prohibited in Russia.
"The Russian Justice Ministry has added the Jehovah's Witnesses Management Center in Russia religious organization, as well as 395 affiliated local religious organizations to the list of civil, religious and other non-governmental organizations regarding which a court order on liquidation or prohibition has taken effect pursuant to the Federal Law on Suppression of Extremist Activity," the ministry's website said in a statement on Thursday.
The aforesaid organizations were added to the prohibited list pursuant to the Russian Supreme Court ruling from April 20, 2017, and the Russian Supreme Court's Appeals Panel judgment from June 17, 2017, in accordance with the Russian Code of Administrative Practice and the Federal Law on Suppression of Extremist Activity, it said.
The Russian Supreme Court upheld the Justice Ministry's lawsuit, branding the Jehovah's Witnesses an extremist organization and banning its activity in Russia on July 20.
Are Mormons banned in Russia?
Even though they are trouble, this is like playing whack-a-mole. One can never whack all the moles. It sounds more like the Orthodox Russian church has gotten so weak it can’t gospel preach its way out of a paper bag. Needing to lean on a state never ends well for a church.
All foreign missionary activities are restricted in Russia, but the Mormons haven’t faced this sort of ban.
As a side note, Germany has banned the Scientologists. The Russians moved against that cult in 2007, but I haven’t seen anything recently.
Indigenous protestant groups that can trace their history to before the Revolution face some harassment, but generally have legal status. I have known American missionaries who worked in Russia after the downfall of communism that have been denied entry in recent years, either by having visas rejected or by having them ignored when they arrived at the airport in Moscow.
I can hear them now. “End of the world”.
We cant even seam to keep radicalized AntiFa Communists or domestic BLM terrorists off the streets.
Russians dont play the Jihad game or like their door bells rung on week ends.
