Not quite dead, watch out when you donate your organs, etc. Card-carrying pre-cadavers.
For kidneys, and to some extent, livers, living donation eliminates the problem.
Consider donating a kidney, or part of your liver, to someone you know in need, or altruistically. Or through paired-exchange.
That’s exactly why I’m not a donor.
