Composer says work is "a radical appropriation of a European, patriarchal tradition, the formal Latin Mass, which we reinterpret through the lens of the marginalized LGBTQ experience"
Requiem Mass: A Queer Divine Rite will have its San Francisco premiere on Nov. 16 & 17 at Grace Cathedral. The piece is an evening-length choral work by singer-composer Holcombe Waller, created to honor those who have suffered persecution due to their sexual orientation or gender expression. Requiem Mass is presented by Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in collaboration with Grace Cathedrals Ghiberti Foundation.
Requiem Mass: A Queer Divine Rite is a radical appropriation of a European, patriarchal tradition, the formal Latin Mass, which we reinterpret through the lens of the marginalized LGBTQ experience, Holcombe Waller told the Bay Area Reporter. In many ways, the result is like an alternate universe in which the millennia of queer leadership in communities of faith have been out all along, shining their example of loving equity across all people. This is what the piece seeks to dream into being.
Waller said that it was the Mormon and Catholic Churches support for Proposition 8, the California ballot measure of a decade ago that sought to define marriage as between one man and one woman, that inspired him to create the work.

Maranatha!
Even Satan couldn’t have come up with some of the freakdom being concocted by the freaks.
Maybe, maybe not. But they are his spiritual children and unless they repent they’ll share the devil’s fate forever and ever.
So freakin sad!
They might as well just do a black mass.
Years ago, after I reverted to Catholicism after many years, I was on a business trip in SF. My hotel room looked over Nob Hill with Grace Cathedral to my left. Since I had free time in my schedule I thought it would be fun to check out what I thought to be a Catholic cathedral. For a good while after my reversion I could swear I felt the real presence from the tabernacle in Catholic churches. I cant really describe the feeling well, but it was real. Anyway, I walked over to Grace Cathedral, walked in without looking around, went into the church and kneeled down to pray. Weirdly, I felt nothing. It wasnt until I got up and walked around that I found out it was an Episcopal cathedral. No tabernacle. No real presence, hence no feeling of the real presence. I know its subjective, but it was a strange experience.
If the Episcopal Church didn’t have some really valuable urban properties and some nice buildings, it would not exist.
I have heard it said that even the demons are repulsed by sodomy.

What I heard was probably derived from that vision.
“Recent statistics show that The Episcopal Church is spiraling downward. I cant help but believe that God has removed His blessing from this Church. Unless something changes, The Episcopal Church is going to die.”
Episcopal Bishop William Love of Albany.
Bishop Love refuses to acknowledge same-sex marriage (see link). This is a brave man, a voice of sanity in the Episcopal Church. He’s right, it’s in serious decline and he cites the reasons why. Those reasons revolve around the church adopting practices antithetical to the Christian religion. A bit long but worth an examination.
Funny but I haven’t noticed too many examples from the LGBT...XYZ community of “loving equity across all people” when those people disagree with the agenda of these “loving people”.
I was confirmed in that Cathedral in 1985. Right before the true onset of inclusiveness and womens ordination and gays and gay marriage demands
Maybe Pope Francis will kneel for this one.
As IowaHawk said:
Take a respected institution.
Kill it.
Gut it.
Wear its carcass as a skin suit.
And demand respect.
This fits the Episcopalians to a tee.
To hell with morals, gots to keep them donations from the freaks coming in don’t ya know?
This rubbish is why I speak to God and the saints directly. Why should I have to endure the perverse behavior of so called church people.
The Real Presence is always with you. If you are a saved child of God you are indwelt by the Holy Spirit and He is with you always. You dont need fancy altars, relics, icons or anything else to experience His presence. He even goes with us into hostile territory.
