The Catholic church needs to move away from requiring a celibate priesthood. There is no scriptural basis for it being required.

monastics of most religions have a celibate tradition. Its certainly true of Buddhist monks, Hindu ascetics and Orthodox priests.

The notion that not having access to women means a priest will turn gay is preposterous anyway. My wife was out of town caring for her sick mother for nearly 2 months - I didn't get a single gay urge the entire time.....

“...no scriptural basis...”

Matthew 19:12; 1 Corinthians 7:37,38

Virginity is not required according to St. Paul and St. Matthew, however it is preferred as the better way - since the priesthood is voluntary, men entering the priesthood knowing that it requires celibacy (”eunuchs - although of course not literally) are choosing the better way (”eunuch” for the kingdom”)

Tradition is not scripture.

Tradition comes from man.

Scripture comes from God.
