Anti semitism can at times be like racism
Overused
Had a very basic level, it is a ready criticism against anyone criticizing Israel or anyone of Jewish faith. I think that it is in overused criticism, which undermines gets real concern.
My favorite quote on antisemitism is from the late Anwar Sadat. Barbara Walters asked him why he was antisemitic, to which he replied, “Why would I be antisemitic? I am a Semite as are most Egyptians.”

God wants Jews to be Jews, and uses non-Jews to make sure Jews remember they are Jewish. Sometimes that’s for the better and sometimes for the worse.
Capitalists hate Jews for being socialists, socialists hate Jews for being capitalists. Some religious people hate Jews for being non-religious, and some religious and non-religious hate Jews for being religious.
The State of Israel is just more of the same of the hazards of being identifiably Jewish.
From my standpoint as an American Jew, “anti-Semitism” in its traditional form is more like “anti-Jew”, blaming the Jews for everything from the economic collapse of post WWI Germany to global warming. Well, okay, glo-bull warming is the fault of George W. Bush and his corporate cronies...
From most of the history I’ve read, anti-Semitism usually arises when the non-Jewish people in charge of a country want to make points with the usually ignorant populace. Since Jews have had a tendency over the past few centuries to be the merchants and bankers of many countries, they become a prime target for these phony-baloney “leaders”. And, given the Jews make up a small minority (10% or so) of the population, it’s easy to pin it on them and make it stick.

Semites are descendant’s of Noah’s son Shem.
The prophet Abraham was a descendant of Shem.
The Jews claim descendancy from Abraham’s (legitimate) son, Isaac. The Arabs claim descendancy from Abraham’s (bastard) son, Ishmael. So both the Jews and the Arabs are Semitic races.
How the label anti-Semitism only gets applied to anti-Jewery is anybody’s guess.
