Just having experienced existence is a kick.
I was once in an airliner when one of the engines
wrecked itself, making the possibility of sudden
death a real thing in my mind.
My reaction, to my surprise, was not one of panicked conversion, but “Oh, well. It’s been nice.”
Intellectually, I am unable to believe things without evidence just because I want them to be true. Religion wise, I feel like the ‘heretic’ Galileo, I think it was,
who was unable to subsume his rationality to what he did not believe to be true. So as to religion, “Here I stand, I can do no other.”
George Washington was a devout and faithful Christian, an active member of an Episcopal Church near his home outside of WDC. Many years ago I wrote a college research paper on Washington and there were unusually few faults anyone could find about this man. His humbleness is best explained when you realize the Continental Congress wanted to make him King of the new nation- and he refused.
Interesting fact.
